How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The National Allotment Society (NAS) is looking for a friendly, organised and confident Administrator to join our small Head Office team.

    This is a varied administrative role with a particular focus on supporting our network of volunteers across the country. You'll help ensure volunteers receive a welcoming and well-organised experience, have access to the information and training they need, and have a clear point of contact at Head Office.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Support volunteer recruitment, induction and onboarding, keeping volunteer records accurate and up to date.

    * Coordinate training, workshops, development activities, meetings and events.

    * Respond to volunteer enquiries and liaise with regional volunteers and Head Office colleagues.

    * Gather information about regional activities and help keep website and regional information current.

    * Prepare straightforward information, guidance and communications for volunteers and colleagues.

    * Follow up actions and information to keep processes on track.

    * Provide occasional general office administration and support.

    About You

    * Previous administrative or coordination experience.

    * Organised, methodical and comfortable managing a varied workload.

    * Approachable, helpful and confident communicating by telephone and in writing.

    * Accurate and attentive to detail, with good follow-through.

    * Comfortable using Microsoft Office, spreadsheets and databases.

    * Able to work independently, use your initiative and handle confidential information appropriately.

    * Patient and supportive when helping others.

    * Experience working with volunteers, membership organisations, training or events would be advantageous but is not essential.

    What We Offer

    * £26,000–£27,000 per annum.

    * 20 days' annual leave plus 8 public/statutory holidays.

    * Christmas closure, generous pension, critical illness cover and life insurance.

    * Private medical cover, subject to successful completion of probation.

    Working Hours: This is advertised as a full-time position, although applications from candidates seeking approximately 9.00am–3.00pm will also be considered. Salary and benefits will be adjusted pro rata where appropriate.

    Closing Date: 15th October 2026

    Please include a tailored cover letter explaining why you're a great fit for the role.

    Please note: The National Allotment Society does not accept recruitment agency submissions for this vacancy
