How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Unqualified SEN & SEMH Teaching Assistant - Preston

    Location: Preston
Role: SEN & SEMH Teaching Assistant
Contract: Full-time, Part time, long-term / permanent opportunities available
    Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
    Start Date: ASAP
Are you passionate about supporting young people and looking for a rewarding career in education?
Do you have experience working with children or young people in a care, sports, youth work, residential, or support setting? Perhaps you're considering a career in teaching, psychology, counselling, youth work, or education but don't yet have a formal qualification.
If so, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and resilient Unqualified SEN & SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Preston, working with pupils who have Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

    The Role

As an SEN & SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to provide tailored support to pupils who may struggle with learning, emotional regulation, behaviour, communication, or social interaction.
    Your responsibilities will include:

Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEN and SEMH needs.

Helping pupils engage with their learning and develop confidence.

Supporting children with emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.

Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils.

Assisting teachers with classroom activities and interventions.

Supporting pupils during lessons, break times and other activities.

Encouraging positive social skills, independence and resilience.

Helping to create a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment.

Working as part of a wider team to support each pupil's individual needs.

    What We're Looking For

You do not need to be qualified or have previous school-based experience. The right attitude and personality are far more important.
We would love to hear from candidates who are:

    Patient, empathetic and approachable.

Resilient and able to remain calm in challenging situations.

Confident communicating with children and young people.

Passionate about helping others achieve their potential.

    Adaptable and willing to learn.

Able to build positive relationships with pupils.

Comfortable working as part of a team.

Committed to safeguarding and the wellbeing of young people.
Previous experience with SEN, SEMH, challenging behaviour, care, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, residential care or similar environments is desirable but not essential.

    Why Apply?

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start or develop a career working with children and young people.
You will receive support from experienced staff and gain valuable hands-on experience working with SEN and SEMH pupils. The role can provide an excellent stepping stone towards future careers in teaching, education, psychology, counselling, youth work, or specialist support.
If you're passionate about making a genuine difference to the lives of young people, we'd love to hear from you
