How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    About the Role

Michael Taylor Search & Selection is a growing recruitment business specialising in permanent and contract recruitment across the construction and built environment sectors.

As the business continues to grow, we are looking for a Junior Finance & Payroll Administrator to join our team in Brick Lane.

This is an entry-level position with full training provided and would suit someone at the beginning of their career who is organised, good with numbers and confident using systems and spreadsheets.

You do not need previous recruitment, payroll or accounting experience. We are looking for someone with the right attitude, attention to detail and willingness to learn.

You'll work closely with our Financial Controller and wider recruitment team, gradually learning how the financial and administrative side of a recruitment business operates.

    What You'll Be Doing

Initially, your role will focus on straightforward administrative tasks, with your responsibilities increasing as you develop.

    You'll be trained to:

    * Check and process weekly contractor timesheets.

    * Make sure hours, rates and contractor information are entered correctly.

    * Help prepare weekly contractor payroll information.

    * Liaise with contractors regarding missing timesheets or information.

    * Assist with producing and checking client invoices.

    * Maintain accurate contractor and finance records.

    * Help with contractor onboarding and documentation.

    * Check Right to Work documents, insurances and other compliance information.

    * Assist with basic credit control and chasing outstanding invoices.

    * Update information across Timesheet Portal, Xero and our CRM.

    * Use Excel to maintain trackers and check information.

    * Support the Financial Controller with general finance and office administration.

As your knowledge and confidence grow, we'll train you across more areas of payroll, invoicing, credit control, contractor finance and financial reporting.

    Who We're Looking For

We're not looking for an experienced accountant or payroll professional.

    We're looking for someone who:

    * Is highly organised and pays close attention to detail.

    * Is comfortable working with numbers.

    * Has basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

    * Is confident using computers and learning new systems.

    * Communicates professionally by telephone and email.

    * Is comfortable working in a busy office environment.

    * Takes pride in getting things right.

    * Is willing to ask questions and learn.

    * Can manage several tasks and deadlines at once.

    * Has a positive, proactive attitude.

Previous office or administrative experience would be useful but isn't essential.

    Training & Development

This is a role we want someone to grow into rather than arrive already knowing.

You'll receive hands-on training from our Financial Controller and wider team, initially learning the administrative fundamentals before developing knowledge of contractor payroll, invoicing, credit control and recruitment finance.

For someone who performs well, there will be the opportunity to progress into roles such as Finance & Payroll Assistant, Senior Finance Administrator or Recruitment Finance/Operations as the company continues to grow.

Why Join Michael Taylor Search & Selection?

You'll be joining a growing business where you'll work directly alongside experienced members of the team and gain exposure to how a successful recruitment company operates.

Rather than being limited to one small administrative function, you'll have the opportunity to learn multiple areas of the business and build a long-term career with us
