How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Derby | From £100 per school day (8.30am - 3.30pm) | Flexible, short-term & ongoing work

Want to turn your degree and transferable skills into valuable classroom experience?

Supply Teach is recruiting graduates to work as Cover Supervisors across secondary schools in Derby, supporting schools when their usual teachers are absent.

No teaching qualification is required. For graduates considering teacher training, this can be an excellent way to gain genuine classroom experience before deciding on your next step.

    The role

As a Cover Supervisor, you'll supervise secondary school classes where work has already been prepared by the absent teacher.

    Your day could involve:

    * Supervising pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4

    * Introducing pre-set activities and keeping pupils on task

    * Managing classroom behaviour confidently and positively

    * Responding to questions and providing general classroom support

    * Following the school's behaviour and safeguarding procedures

You won't be expected to plan lessons or take work home to mark.

    Could this suit you?

We're particularly interested in hearing from graduates who are confident, personable and able to build positive relationships with young people.

    You may be:

    * Considering teacher training

    * Exploring whether education is the right career for you

    * Looking to gain classroom experience

    * A recent graduate wanting flexible work

    * Experienced in coaching, tutoring, mentoring, youth work or working with young people

Previous classroom experience is useful, but it isn't essential for every opportunity.

What's more important is that you can communicate clearly, remain calm under pressure and confidently take responsibility for a classroom.

    Working through Supply Teach

We're a local education recruitment agency supporting schools throughout Derby and Derbyshire.

    We offer:

    * Flexible working around the days you're available

    * A range of Derby secondary school opportunities

    * Short-term, regular and longer-term placements

    * A dedicated consultant who gets to know your preferences

    * Support while you develop your school experience

    * Opportunities that can provide a valuable route towards teacher training or a longer-term career in education

If you'd like to gain meaningful secondary school experience while earning from £100 per school day (8.30am - 3.30pm), apply today and we'll talk you through the next steps.

Supply Teach is an equal opportunities employer and operates as an Employment Business in providing temporary or contract job-seeking services.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and is subject to a successful Enhanced Disclosure, Barring Service (DBS) check and two professional references
