How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Location: Newcastle
    Rate/Salary: £50,000
    Type: Permanent
    Benefits: Lots of Benefits

HSB Technical Ltd is a specialist recruiter within the Power & Propulsion, Shipbuilding, Shipping & Energy and Fire & Security sectors. We have a number of permanent and contract vacancies for multiple businesses across the UK and overseas.

Working as the Service Project Manager you will be responsible and focussed on the controlled delivery of the assigned marine engineering service projects, from formal operational handover through to commercial close-out and submission of complete draft-invoice information. This role coordinates each service project against the agreed scope, programme and cost allowances and leads the assigned engineers and subcontractors without direct line-management responsibility whilst being the point of contact for the customer. Overall departmental resource planning, and overall gross-margin accountability remain with the Operations Manager. The Service Project Manager is accountable for identifying and escalating departures from the project plan before they affect delivery, cost, quality or the customer relationship.

Duties and responsibilities of the Service Project Manager:

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    * Manage marine and engineering service projects from initial handover and mobilisation through to completion and commercial close-out.

    * Plan and coordinate project scope, schedules, resources, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers and equipment.

    * Act as the main customer contact throughout each project, leading kick-off meetings, providing progress updates and managing expectations.

    * Monitor project performance against agreed timescales, budgets and commercial allowances, identifying risks, delays and cost variances early.

    * Manage changes to project scope, ensuring variations and additional works are correctly quoted, approved and recorded.

    * Coordinate engineers and subcontractors across dockings, overhauls, repairs, installations and commissioning projects.

    * Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with health & safety, environmental, quality and technical requirements, including RAMS, permits and ITPs/IVPs where required.

    * Maintain accurate project records and documentation using CRM, ERP and field-service systems.

    * Manage project completion, customer sign-off, outstanding actions and documentation required for invoicing.

    * Review completed projects to identify lessons learned and opportunities to improve future project delivery.

    Experience and Qualifications:

    * Previous Project Management experience within marine engineering, field service, power generation or a similar engineering environment.

    * Experience managing multiple technical projects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers and customers.

    * Good commercial awareness with experience of project budgets, costs, variations and purchase orders.

    * Strong planning, organisation and customer management skills.

    * Good engineering understanding, ideally covering diesel engines, propulsion, generators or associated equipment.

    * Knowledge of health & safety, quality and environmental requirements.

    * Comfortable using CRM, ERP or project management systems.

    * Full UK driving licence and valid passport, with the flexibility to travel within the UK and internationally.

    Desirable:

    * Previous experience working with shipyards, vessel operators, OEMs or marine engineering businesses.

    * Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365, Business Central or similar systems.

    * A recognised Project Management qualification such as APM, PRINCE2 or equivalent.
