How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Product / Development Engineer

    Location: Lichfield
    Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
    Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm
    Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

    The Role

    Our Lichfield based client is looking for an experienced Product / Development Engineer to join their R&D team and play a key role in the development of innovative vehicle safety, telematics and connected vehicle products.

    This is a hands-on role combining product development, vehicle electronics and technical project management, with responsibility for taking products from initial concept and prototyping through to testing, validation and launch.

    You will work closely with suppliers, manufacturers, engineers, developers, Sales and customers to develop practical product solutions that meet both technical and commercial requirements. The role will involve working directly with development vehicles, integrating electronic systems and supporting field trials and customer projects.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Support the development and management of the company's vehicle technology product portfolio.

    * Identify new products, technologies and opportunities that could add value to the business and its customers.

    * Take ownership of new product development projects from concept through to testing, launch and ongoing improvement.

    * Define product requirements, technical specifications and acceptance criteria.

    * Design and configure prototype hardware systems.

    * Integrate controllers, sensors and communication interfaces.

    * Develop vehicle-specific harnessing and integration solutions.

    * Specify, test and validate electronic components.

    * Install prototype systems into development vehicles.

    * Validate product functionality within live vehicle environments.

    * Carry out compatibility testing across different vehicle manufacturers.

    * Support field trials, demonstrations and customer product validation.

    * Work closely with suppliers, manufacturers and technology partners to resolve technical and product-related issues.

    * Manage product testing and validation prior to launch.

    * Monitor product performance and customer feedback and identify opportunities for improvement.

    * Support Sales with technical input for tenders, demonstrations and major customer opportunities.

    * Provide technical product support and knowledge to internal teams.

    * Maintain product specifications, technical documentation and supporting information.

    * Manage multiple product development projects, priorities, timelines and deliverables.

    * Monitor market, competitor and technology developments to identify new opportunities.

    About You

    We are looking for someone with a strong technical background who enjoys getting hands-on with vehicle technology and product development.

    You will ideally have:

    * Experience in product development, product engineering, electronics engineering or a similar technical role.

    * A strong understanding of vehicle electronics and electrical systems.

    * Experience developing, testing or integrating electronic products.

    * Experience working with suppliers, manufacturers, engineers or technology partners.

    * The ability to install, configure and test prototype systems on vehicles.

    * Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

    * Good project management and organisational skills.

    * The ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

    * Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with both technical and commercial stakeholders.

    * The ability to understand customer requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions.

    Experience within the plant and construction or bus and coach sectors would be particularly advantageous.

    Knowledge or experience of vehicle cameras, DVRs, AI technology, telematics, connected vehicles, vehicle electronics, fleet safety systems or vehicle security would also be highly beneficial.
