How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Electrical Testing Team Leader

    Salary:
    £43,100 - £51,720 – including 20% shift allowance and overtime is available.

    Shift pattern:
    Will be an alternating shift pattern 6am -14.00pm /2pm-22.00pm including some weekend work.

    Location:
    PLESE NOTE – This role is based in Newport, Wales.

    Our client is highly successful in the rail industry and is currently recruiting for 2 experienced Team Leaders to join their growing and successful company in Newport, Wales, You will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the testing team, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
    The role involves Electrical fault finding, as well as leading, motivating and developing team members, managing resources, meeting production targets and supporting continuous improvement. Previous experience is essential, must have worked within a similar role within Rolling stock or the Automotive industry.

    This role would be ideal for an experienced Team Leader looking to progress their career within a dynamic and growing company. It would also suit someone who has previously stepped up to cover a Team Leader position and is now ready to take the next step into a permanent leadership role.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Electrical fault finding on rolling stock / vehicles.
    • Lead and coordinate testing activities within the department.
    • Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and within required timescales.
    • Carry out on-board testing on test trains prior to release into service.
    • Undertake complex testing, fault-finding, troubleshooting, repairs and quality checks.
    • Ensure all work meets required safety, quality and production standards.
    • Complete test reports, records and other documentation accurately and on time.
    • Monitor team performance and ensure targets and objectives are achieved.
    • Allocate work and resources effectively to maximise productivity.
    • Conduct team briefings and toolbox talks and communicate work priorities clearly.
    • Train, coach and mentor team members, supporting their development and competence.
    • Participate in employee induction and ongoing training.
    • Assess team members competence where required.
    • Promote continuous improvement, lean manufacturing and efficiency initiatives.
    • Ensure machinery, equipment and plant are maintained, and safety checks are completed.
    • Report equipment faults, breakdowns and other issues promptly.
    • Ensure sufficient materials, equipment and resources are available.
    • Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and relevant legislation.
    • Promote safe working practices within a safety-critical environment.
    • Support other teams and departments as required.
    • Act as First Aider and/or Fire Marshal where required.
    • Liaise with management regarding staffing, resources, workload and training requirements.
    • Maintain confidentiality and promote a positive company image.
    • Support the Companys values, objectives and Equal Opportunities policy.

    • Ensure all work complies with health, safety and environmental legislation.
    • Ensure company quality management systems and procedures are followed.

    Personal Specification
    Essential
    • NVQ Level 3 or Modern Apprenticeship in a relevant discipline.
    • Experience leading a team within a manufacturing, engineering or similar environment.
    • Experience working within a shift-based operation.
    • Good understanding of production processes and plant operating procedures.
    • Experience of lean manufacturing techniques.
    • Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings and technical documentation.
    • Experience of training, coaching and mentoring others.
    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
    • Ability to prioritise workload and manage people, tools and resources effectively.
    • Ability to remain focused and motivated under pressure.
    • Experience managing performance and maintaining high standards.
    • Knowledge of safe working practices within a safety-critical environment.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to manage a range of employee issues professionally.
    • Commitment to continuous learning and development.
    • Flexibility to work across a range of activities and shift patterns, including nights and weekends where required.
    • Someone who is able to bring new ideas to the company.
    • Good leadership skills.

    Desirable
    • ILM Level 3 Leadership & Management or equivalent.
    • IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
    • Qualified Assessor/Train the Trainer qualification, or willingness to work towards one
