How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Mobile Mechanical Engineer
    Location: Birmingham / Midlands
    Salary: £38,000 - £40,000 per annum
    Employment Type: Permanent
    On-Call: 1 in 5
    Company Vehicle: Electric van provided for business use

    About the Role

    We are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading Facilities Management company for an experienced Mobile Mechanical Engineer to join their team, working across a range of commercial contracts throughout the Midlands.

    The role is predominantly mechanical and plumbing focused, with the majority of work involving general plumbing, boilers, heating systems and domestic hot and cold-water systems.

    The position would ideally suit an engineer based in Birmingham, as a large proportion of the work will be within the Birmingham area. However, the role will also involve travel across the East Midlands, West Midlands and Stoke, so candidates must be comfortable travelling between sites.

    As part of the company's mobile engineering operation, engineers are expected to work within an hour's travel each way.

    Key Responsibilities
    Carry out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across commercial properties
    General plumbing and maintenance works
    Boiler maintenance and fault finding
    Heating system maintenance and repairs
    Domestic hot and cold-water system maintenance
    Identify and diagnose mechanical and plumbing faults
    Complete PPM and reactive maintenance tasks
    Work across multiple commercial contracts and client sites
    Liaise professionally with clients, contractors and site teams
    Complete maintenance records and relevant documentation
    Participate in a 1-in-5 on-call rota
    Undertake overtime when required and available The role will involve working across a variety of commercial environments, including schools, office buildings and Guide Dogs facilities.
    Requirements
    Strong experience within commercial mechanical/plumbing maintenance
    Good practical knowledge of plumbing, boilers, heating and hot/cold-water systems
    City & Guilds Level 3 Plumbing is desirable, but experience is considered more important than formal qualifications
    Previous mobile maintenance experience would be advantageous
    Full UK driving licence
    Comfortable travelling across the Midlands and Stoke
    Able to work independently and manage a varied workload
    Good communication and customer service skills
    Willingness to participate in a 1-in-5 on-call rota
    Must be able to successfully obtain an Enhanced DBS with Barred Lists check Package
    Salary of £38,000 - £40,000 per annum
