How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

We’re working with a highly regarded structural engineering consultancy with an established reputation for delivering technically challenging and commercially significant projects across the UK and Europe. They are looking to appoint a Senior Structural Engineer to join their Southwark office, offering the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers on some of the most substantial projects being delivered in the UK.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically driven engineer who wants to work on projects where structural engineering is at the forefront of the design. You’ll join an experienced team working across major developments, including large-scale residential schemes and complex healthcare projects, with project values reaching £300m-£400m. The consultancy works closely with some of the UK’s leading contractors, giving you excellent exposure to the wider construction process and the commercial aspects of project delivery.

The successful candidate will be a technically strong and commercially aware Senior Structural Engineer who is comfortable taking responsibility for their own work while contributing to the wider project team. You’ll be expected to bring sound structural design experience, strong communication skills and a genuine interest in delivering practical, buildable solutions on complex projects.

    What’s On Offer

Opportunity to work on high-profile projects valued at £300m-£400m.

Exposure to major UK contractors and some of the country’s most significant developments.

A technically challenging role with excellent opportunities for career progression.

Hybrid working, with 2-3 days per week in the Southwark office.

The chance to work alongside a highly experienced and technically focused engineering team.

Greater exposure to the commercial and project delivery side of structural engineering.

Opportunity to take ownership of significant elements of major projects and develop your leadership capabilities.

    What You Need To Succeed

Strong structural design experience gained within a consultancy environment.

A technically minded engineer with experience across steel, reinforced concrete and/or composite structures.

Experience working on medium to large-scale building projects, ideally within sectors such as residential, healthcare, commercial or mixed-use.

Good understanding of structural engineering principles, design standards and the practical requirements of construction.

A commercially aware approach, with an understanding of project programmes, budgets and client requirements.

Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients, contractors and other members of the design team.

Chartered with the IStructE or ICE (or working towards Chartered Engineer status) would be advantageous.

A strong academic background with a BEng or MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering (minimum 2:1)
