About the Role
Long Term Futures are working with a supportive primary school in Hammersmith & Fulham to recruit an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to work within a Year 5 classroom.
The role will focus on supporting a pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder alongside behavioural and trauma-related needs. The successful candidate will need to be calm, resilient and consistent, with the ability to build trust while maintaining clear boundaries and expectations.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing targeted 1:1 support within a Year 5 classroom
Supporting a pupil with autism, behavioural and trauma-related needs
Helping with emotional regulation and engagement in learning
Using positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
Supporting the pupil during transitions and challenging periods of the school day
Building a consistent and trusting relationship with the pupil
Encouraging independence, confidence and positive social interaction
Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and pastoral teamThe Ideal Candidate
The school is looking for someone who:
Has experience supporting pupils with autism and challenging behaviour
Ideally has experience working with children who have experienced trauma
Is confident managing dysregulation and challenging situations
Can remain calm, patient and consistent
Understands the importance of boundaries, routine and relationship-based support
Is proactive, reliable and able to work effectively as part of a teamCandidates with backgrounds in SEN, behaviour mentoring, youth work, psychology, SEMH or similar settings are encouraged to apply.
