How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Quantity Surveyor

    Edinburgh
£70,000–£82,000 + car or car allowance + excellent overall benefits package

ARC Group are working with a major international main contractor to appoint a Senior Quantity Surveyor to a substantial building project in Edinburgh.

The project has a significant programme still ahead, with major procurement and subcontract activity remaining. This gives the incoming Senior QS the opportunity to take ownership of meaningful commercial packages from an important stage of the project rather than joining primarily for account close-out.

The position would suit an established Senior Quantity Surveyor looking for greater project responsibility, as well as a strong Project QS who is ready to step properly into Senior QS level.

    The opportunity

You will form an important part of the project commercial team, taking responsibility for significant subcontract packages while working closely with the Commercial Manager and senior project leadership.

    The role offers:

Commercial ownership of significant subcontract packages

Major procurement activity still to be undertaken

Involvement from procurement through delivery to final account

Broader exposure to project forecasting, risk and commercial strategy

A technically challenging Edinburgh building project

Direct exposure to senior commercial and operational leadership

Opportunity to support and develop junior commercial staff

A credible route towards Commercial Manager responsibility

The backing and resources of a major international contractor

Longer-term opportunity as the UK Building operation develops

    The role

    Your responsibilities will include:

Leading procurement of allocated subcontract packages

Tender analysis, commercial negotiation and subcontract appointment

Managing subcontract accounts throughout the project lifecycle

    Valuations, variations and change management

    Cost reporting, forecasting and cost-to-complete

Identifying and managing commercial risk and opportunity

    Negotiating and agreeing final accounts

    Supporting monthly project commercial reporting

Working closely with construction, design and project management teams

Supporting the Commercial Manager with wider project commercial strategy

Providing guidance and support to junior commercial staff where appropriate

    About you

You will ideally come from a UK main contractor background and already have responsibility for substantial subcontract packages on significant building projects.

We are interested in speaking with:

Established Senior Quantity Surveyors looking for greater responsibility and stronger longer-term prospects

Senior QSs who want a realistic route towards Commercial Manager level

Strong Project Quantity Surveyors who are ready to take the next step

You should be confident across procurement, subcontract management, forecasting, change, commercial reporting and final accounts, with the ability to work closely with operational teams and manage your packages with a high degree of autonomy.

Experience of complex refurbishment, city-centre construction or other technically demanding building projects would be particularly relevant.

    Career development

For an experienced Senior QS, this offers considerably more than a change of project.

There is genuine scope to increase your commercial responsibility, work closely with senior leadership and position yourself towards Commercial Manager level as the project and wider UK Building business develop.

The contractor has substantial international resources behind it while continuing to grow its UK Building presence, creating an unusual combination of established contractor scale and genuine opportunity for progression.

£70,000–£82,000 + car or car allowance + excellent overall benefits package

For a confidential discussion about the project, level of responsibility and longer-term opportunity, apply directly or contact Andy at ARC Group.
