How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Technical Solutions Engineer

We are currently recruiting for a Technical Solutions Engineer to join a leading UK manufacturing and contract packaging business supplying solutions to major blue-chip brands, FMCG manufacturers and some of the UK's largest retailers.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving problems, developing new ideas and improving machinery and manufacturing processes.

The position is much more varied than a traditional maintenance role. You will be involved across R&D, NPD, engineering projects, machinery optimisation, automation, packaging development, trials and continuous improvement, giving you the opportunity to make a genuine impact across the operation.

The salary ranges from £30,000 to £55,000, depending on experience, meaning the business is open to considering both developing engineers and highly experienced candidates.

    The Role

As Technical Solutions Engineer, you will work closely with engineering, production, operations and commercial teams to develop and implement practical engineering solutions.

    Your responsibilities will include:

Developing, testing and implementing solutions to improve machinery, packaging processes, line performance and product quality

Supporting R&D and New Product Development (NPD) projects

Conducting machinery, packaging and production trials

Supporting the introduction and optimisation of new packaging machinery and automation

Identifying engineering problems, carrying out root cause analysis and implementing permanent solutions

Improving existing machinery through practical modifications and upgrades

Supporting technical projects for major FMCG customers and retailers

Producing technical documentation, including test reports, specifications, risk assessments and technical drawings

Supporting Lean, Kaizen, OEE and waste reduction projects

Evaluating new machinery, materials, tools and technologies

Working across multiple engineering and technical projects simultaneously

Ensuring engineering activities meet required health, safety and quality standards

    The Candidate

We are interested in speaking with engineers from mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, automation, manufacturing, process or industrial engineering backgrounds.

    You should ideally have:

Level 3 Engineering qualification or above

Strong hands-on engineering and problem-solving ability

Experience within a manufacturing, production, FMCG or packaging environment

Knowledge of automated machinery, packaging equipment or product handling systems

Experience identifying faults and implementing engineering improvements

    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Ability to communicate effectively with engineering, production and operational teams

Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities

    Desirable Experience

Any of the following would be advantageous:

    Packaging or contract packing experience

FMCG, food or high-volume manufacturing experience

    R&D or NPD experience

Machinery development, modification or machine building

    Automation and control systems

Continuous improvement methodologies including Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5 Whys or OEE

    CAD or technical drawing experience

    Prototyping or 3D printing

Packaging machinery including bagging, cartoning, pouching, flow wrapping or labelling equipment

    What's On Offer?

    £30,000 - £55,000 salary depending on experience

    Permanent position

    Monday to Friday

    40-hour working week

    05:45 - 14:15 / 13:45 - 22:15 shifts

Exposure to major engineering, R&D and NPD projects

Opportunity to work with major UK brands and retailers

Excellent variety across engineering, automation, packaging and process improvement

Career development within a growing organisation
