How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Fire & Security Engineer

    Salary: £22.00 – £24.00 per hour + enhanced overtime

Location: Edinburgh / Central Scotland – covering Glasgow and sites across Scotland

    Type: Permanent, Full-time, Field-based

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday + overtime and 1-in-12 call-out rota

Looking for a Fire & Security role with strong earning potential, a good mix of work and the backing of an established engineering team?

Our client is looking for an experienced Fire & Security Engineer to join their growing team in Scotland. Ideally based around Edinburgh or the surrounding area, you’ll cover the Central Belt including Glasgow, with some wider travel across Scotland depending on customer requirements.

This is a varied field-based role covering service, maintenance, fault-finding, repairs, small works and installation across a broad range of Fire & Security systems. You’ll need to be confident working independently, dealing directly with customers and diagnosing faults across different types of equipment. You don’t need experience of every manufacturer or system, but you should have a strong all-round Fire & Security background and a willingness to continue developing your technical skills.

    Job Description

Service, maintain, fault-find and repair Fire & Security systems across customer sites.

Carry out planned and reactive maintenance, small works and installations.

Diagnose faults across fire alarms, CCTV, intruder, access control and door entry systems.

Complete remedial works and system upgrades where required.

Liaise directly with customers and provide clear advice on faults, repairs and recommended works.

Complete engineering reports, risk assessments and associated documentation.

Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with relevant standards and procedures.

Participate in the emergency call-out rota, approximately 1 week in every 12.

    Person Specification

Previous field engineering experience within the Fire & Security sector.

Strong service, maintenance and fault-finding skills.

Experience with fire alarms alongside CCTV, intruder, access control and/or door entry systems.

Familiarity with a range of commonly used Fire & Security systems and manufacturers.

Experience with IP and analogue CCTV systems would be beneficial.

Gates and barriers experience would be advantageous but is not essential.

Confident working independently and managing your own workload.

    Good customer-facing and communication skills.

    Full UK driving licence.

The role offers a basic rate of £22–£24 per hour, depending on experience, with overtime paid at 1.5x for evenings and 2x for late and weekend working. The on-call rota is approximately 1 in 12, with a £250 call-out payment plus hours worked.

You’ll also receive a company van and fuel, tools and equipment, laptop and mobile phone, alongside BUPA healthcare, pension and 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays. There is also ongoing technical training and good scope for longer-term progression as the team continues to grow.

If you’re an experienced Fire & Security Engineer based around Edinburgh or Central Scotland and want a role offering strong earning potential, varied work and a supportive engineering environment, apply now or get in touch for a confidential conversation.
