How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Qualified Accountant
    Location: Derby
    Package: Competitive salary, depending on experience, with 30 days holiday and clear progression opportunities
    Working hours: Full time, Monday-Friday, with 4-day working weeks also considered

    A fantastic opportunity has arisen within an established and growing accountancy practice for a
    Qualified Accountant to join their Derby office. This role would suit a candidate with strong practice experience who is looking to take on greater responsibility across accounts, tax and client work, while also supporting and reviewing the work of more junior members of the team.
    The practice has a long-established presence and works with a broad range of clients, including limited companies, sole traders, partnerships, groups and high-net-worth individuals. There is also a particular focus on property-related clients, providing the successful candidate with exposure to a varied and technically interesting portfolio.
    This is an excellent opportunity to join a friendly and supportive practice where you will play an important role in the review and finalisation of client work, while continuing to develop your technical and client-facing skills.

    Job Overview
    * Initially prepare a selection of accounts from records through to draft stage to gain an understanding of the firm's processes.
    * Review accounts prepared by junior and semi-senior members of the team.
    * Provide technical feedback and guidance to the wider team.
    * Assist with the finalisation of more complex accounts.
    * Complete final reviews of client accounts before they are issued.
    * Complete a range of personal and business tax returns.
    * Deal with client queries and provide technical support where required.
    * Research and respond to HMRC and other technical queries.
    * Consider tax implications and provide appropriate solutions on more complex client matters.
    * Support Client Managers and Directors with technical queries and client work.
    * Assist with the development and training of junior members of the team.
    * Work with a varied portfolio of clients, including those with more complex property interests.

    Job Requirements
    * ACA or ACCA qualified, or equivalent.
    * Proven experience working within an accountancy practice is essential.
    * Strong experience across general accounts preparation and review.
    * Good knowledge of personal and business taxation.
    * Comfortable dealing with more complex accounting and tax matters.
    * Strong technical and analytical skills.
    * Excellent communication and client relationship management skills.
    * Ability to provide guidance and constructive feedback to junior members of the team.
    * Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a close-knit team.
    * A proactive approach with the confidence to research and resolve technical queries.
    * Willingness to work onsite in the Derby office.
