How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Bid Writer

    Nottingham (Clifton)

£32,800 rising to £38,700 with service

Join Nottingham Community Housing association as a Bid Writer and Help shape services that change lives.

Imagine using your writing, analytical and relationship-building skills to help secure services that genuinely change people's lives.

At NCHA, our Business Development Team plays a vital role in shaping the future of our housing, care and support services across communities. We work across the organisation, identifying new opportunities, writing successful bids, supporting service development and helping ensure our services remain sustainable for the future.

We're now looking for a Bid Writer to join our high-performing team. Whether you're an experienced bid writer looking to apply your skills in a meaningful sector, or you're a social care manager ready to move into business development, we'd love to hear from you.

This is an exciting opportunity to either learn the role or learn the sector. You don't need both from day one.

Interviews will be held on 26th October 2026 at our Clifton Office, Clifton, Nottingham.

    About the role

Working closely with the Business Development Manager, you'll help identify, assess and secure new business opportunities through tenders, grants and commissioned services, while supporting existing services to remain fit for the future.

In this varied and influential role, you'll:

    * Identify, research and track new business, commissioning and funding opportunities

    * Analyse market intelligence, service performance data and financial information

    * Help shape delivery models and budgets for new opportunities

    * Coordinate and write high-quality tenders, grant applications and bid submissions

    * Prepare compelling method statements and supporting documentation

    * Maintain accurate records of opportunities, submissions and outcomes

    * Work collaboratively with operational colleagues and subject matter experts across the organisation

    * Represent NCHA at internal and external meetings and forums, promoting our reputation as a high-quality provider

No two days are the same. One day you might be analysing service data and developing budgets, the next writing a tender response, and the next working with colleagues to design services for future communities.

    About you

We recognise that great candidates may come from different backgrounds.

Bring either the sector knowledge or the bid writing expertise - we'll help you develop the rest.

You might already be an experienced bid writer, proposal writer or business development professional looking to move into a values-led organisation.

Alternatively, you might be a manager or senior practitioner within social care, housing or support services who understands the sector and is ready to develop specialist bid writing and business development skills – this is not a sales role.

    To be successful, you'll bring:

    * Experience of researching, writing or supporting tender and bid submissions or management experience within a social care setting.

    * Experience or knowledge of housing, social care, public sector commissioning, business development or similar environments

    * A strong understanding of services that support vulnerable adults and sustainable communities

    * Excellent written communication skills and the ability to produce high-quality documents

    * Strong numeracy, IT and analytical skills

    * The ability to organise information, manage deadlines and balance competing priorities

    * Confidence building relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels

Occasional travel to meetings, stakeholder visits and events may be required. A driving licence and access to a vehicle is preferred unless a disability prevents this.

This role is offered on a hybrid basis, with an expectation that you’ll work three days per week from our Clifton office and the remaining time from home. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm. We’re committed to flexible working and are happy to consider this role on a part‑time basis, with hours ranging from 14 to 35 per week, depending on individual needs and team requirements. In house this role is known as Business Development Coordinator.

If you're a skilled writer looking for a rewarding sector, or an experienced social care professional looking for a new challenge, we'd love to hear from you
