How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Single Homeless Project has a new opportunity for a Duty Worker to join and work in our team based in Camden, London. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary starting at £34,127.11 and rising incrementally to £36,947.49 per annum??????.

We’re London’s leading homelessness charity – and we get things done.

In a city where hundreds are forced into homelessness every day, our work has never been more needed or more challenging. And we’re not shying away. We’re rolling up our sleeves to make change and helping over 10,000 Londoners every year. We prevent homelessness, provide safe places to live and give people the opportunity to rebuild their lives and transform their futures. And we never give up.

We’re here for Londoners wherever they are on their journey. We start with trust, building relationships that help people feel safe, supported, and ready to move forward. Every day, we put people first in everything we do, challenging injustice and barriers that keep people from the safety, stability and opportunity they deserve. We stand alongside people as they rebuild and shape a future that feels their own.

Joining Single Homeless Project means joining a team that’s bold, compassionate and determined to do better for the people we support and for each other. You’ll work alongside colleagues with lived experience, in a space that’s trans-inclusive, disability-friendly, and actively striving to be anti-oppressive and equitable.

We’re not perfect, but we’re real. We listen. We learn. And we push forward, together. Because this isn’t just a job. It’s a chance to lead with empathy, spark change, and help build a London where no one is left behind.

    About the Duty Worker role:

For someone sleeping rough, walking into a service and knowing there is someone who will listen, understand what they need and help them find the right support can make a huge difference. As a Duty Worker in our Camden Rough Sleeping Outreach Hub, you’ll be one of the people helping to make that happen — creating a welcoming, calm and well-organised space where clients can access support and partner agencies can work together effectively.

You’ll be a key point of contact within the Hub, responding to enquiries, helping clients navigate the support available and connecting them with the right colleagues or partner agencies. You’ll also play an important role in recognising when someone may need more urgent support, identifying safeguarding or welfare concerns and making sure these are escalated appropriately.

Behind the scenes, you’ll help keep the Hub running smoothly by coordinating appointments, partner attendance, calendars, communications and day-to-day administration. You’ll work closely with our outreach teams, Referral Coordinator and external agencies, helping information move quickly and accurately so that clients experience a joined-up service rather than having to navigate different systems alone.

This is a Monday to Friday role, working 8am–4pm, offering a consistent daytime working pattern within a busy and collaborative service. You’ll also have access to Single Homeless Project's (SHP) learning and development opportunities, with support to build your knowledge of homelessness services and develop your career across the organisation.

About you as our Duty Worker:

You are experienced in working in a busy client-facing, reception, administrative, community or support environment, and are confident responding to a wide range of enquiries.

You are highly organised, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage appointments, records, emails and competing priorities effectively.

You communicate clearly and confidently, and know how to manage expectations, maintain professional boundaries and stay calm when situations become challenging.

You build positive relationships with clients, colleagues and partner agencies, and understand the value of joined-up, multi-agency working.

You understand the barriers faced by people experiencing homelessness, rough sleeping and multiple disadvantage, alongside the importance of safeguarding, confidentiality and appropriate information sharing.

    Our attractive benefits package includes:

A salary increase after successfully completing six month's probationary period

A 37.5 hour working week including flexible working hours (core hours are 10am – 4pm) in non-accommodation services

25 days annual leave, increasing annually to the maximum 30 days (plus paid Bank Holidays),

A contributory pension scheme: Single Homeless Project will contribute the equivalent of 5% of your annual salary

Staff Health Cash Plan and discounts scheme

Comprehensive and integrated training programme designed specifically to develop the skills and knowledge involved in our work

Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to join the Single Homeless Project team – please click ‘apply’ now to become our Duty Worker - we'd like to hear from you!
