How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Incoming Inspector | Wheelsets & Bogies | Initial 6-Month Contract

    East Midlands | Long-Term Opportunity | Immediate Start Available

    The Opportunity

    Ford & Stanley are recruiting for an Incoming Inspector to support the inspection and quality assurance of critical rail components, primarily wheelsets and bogies.

    This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced quality or inspection professional with a strong engineering background who is comfortable interpreting engineering drawings, carrying out dimensional inspections, and managing quality documentation.

    Working within a busy rail engineering environment, you will be responsible for ensuring all incoming materials and components meet required standards before entering production or maintenance activities. The successful candidate will play a key role in identifying non-conformances, completing inspection documentation, and logging quality issues through the company's internal management system.

    The Role: Incoming Inspector

    As an Incoming Inspector, you will support the quality team by carrying out inspections on incoming rail components and materials, ensuring compliance with engineering specifications and quality standards.

    You will be responsible for conducting inspections, validating materials, recording defects, and maintaining accurate quality records whilst working closely with engineering and operational teams.

    Key Responsibilities

    Conduct incoming inspections on wheelsets, bogies, and associated rail components.
    Verify incoming materials and components against engineering drawings and specifications.
    Carry out material verification and validation activities.
    Perform dimensional inspections using appropriate measuring equipment.
    Identify defects, non-conformances, and quality concerns.
    Complete inspection reports and associated quality documentation.
    Accurately record defects and inspection findings within the company's incident management system.
    Interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
    Maintain detailed inspection records and traceability documentation.
    Work collaboratively with quality, engineering, and operational teams to resolve quality issues.
    Ensure all inspections are completed in accordance with company procedures and quality standards.
    Support continuous improvement initiatives relating to quality and inspection processes.

    Essential Criteria

    Previous experience in a Quality Inspector, Incoming Inspector, or similar engineering inspection role.
    Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
    Experience carrying out dimensional inspections and measurements.
    Experience with material verification and validation processes.
    Strong attention to detail and a quality-focused approach.
    Experience completing quality documentation and inspection reports.
    Ability to identify and accurately record defects and non-conformances.
    Good IT skills and experience using quality management or reporting systems.
    Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.

    Desirable Criteria

    Previous rail industry experience.
    Experience inspecting wheelsets, bogies, or rolling stock components.
    Background within heavy engineering, manufacturing, or maintenance environments.
    Knowledge of quality assurance and quality control processes.
    Experience working within a safety-critical industry.

    Contract Details

    Initial 6-month contract.
    Opportunity to extend for a further 12 months.
    Potential for permanent employment.
