How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Mental Health & Wellbeing Teaching Assistant

    Corby, Northamptonshire
    Full-Time | Long-Term Position
    Tradewind Recruitment

Do you have experience supporting young people or adults with mental health, SEN or additional needs?

Are you looking for a role where you can use that experience to make a positive impact on a young person's education and wellbeing?

Tradewind Recruitment are looking for a Mental Health & Wellbeing Teaching Assistant to work within a school in Corby, supporting students who may experience social, emotional and mental health difficulties.

The school is looking for someone who understands that behaviour can often be a form of communication and who can provide the patience, consistency and encouragement students need to engage successfully with education.

    What Will You Be Doing?

This is a varied role where no two days will necessarily look the same. You will work alongside teaching and pastoral staff to provide additional support to students who may find aspects of school life challenging.

    You will:

Build strong and professional relationships with students

    Provide individual and small-group support

Help young people manage their emotions and develop positive coping strategies

Support students who may experience anxiety, low confidence or difficulties regulating their emotions

Encourage students to re-engage with learning

    Provide additional support within lessons

Help students develop their confidence, independence and resilience

Support positive behaviour through clear boundaries and consistent approaches

Assist with pastoral, wellbeing and intervention sessions

Work alongside teachers, SEN staff and other professionals

Provide a positive and reliable presence for students throughout the school day

    Who Would Suit This Role?

You don't necessarily need to have followed a traditional education career path.

We are particularly interested in speaking with people who have experience within:

    SEN or SEND

    SEMH

    Mental health services

    Youth work

    Care and support work

    Residential childcare

    Behaviour support

    Counselling

    Psychology

    Mentoring

    Social care

    Teaching or learning support

Previous school experience would be beneficial, but relevant experience supporting individuals with additional, emotional or mental health needs will also be considered.

Most importantly, you will need to be someone who can remain calm when situations become challenging, establish appropriate boundaries and build genuine relationships with young people.

    What We're Looking For

    You will ideally be:

    Patient and understanding

    Emotionally resilient

    Confident communicating with young people

    Empathetic without being judgemental

    Consistent in your approach

    Comfortable supporting challenging behaviour

Able to work collaboratively with other professionals

Passionate about mental health and young people's wellbeing

    Working with Tradewind Recruitment

As part of Tradewind Recruitment, you will receive:

    Dedicated support throughout your placement

Access to free professional development and CPD

Free access to The National College after your first day worked

Opportunities to develop experience within SEN and SEMH education

Access to long-term and potential permanent opportunities

    Ongoing career support and guidance

This could be an excellent opportunity if you're looking to move into SEMH education, mental health support, pastoral care, counselling or psychology and want practical experience supporting young people.

Tradewind Recruitment is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Successful applicants will be subject to appropriate safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS and satisfactory references.
