How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Are you a creative communicator ready to celebrate local government achievements? East Cambridgeshire District Council has an exciting Senior Communications Officer opportunity!

    Location: Ely, Cambridgeshire, CB7 4EE

    Salary: £34,811 to £39,481 per annum

    Job Type: Full time, 12 months fixed term contract

    Hours: Hybrid working, with attendance at council offices three days per week

    Senior Communications Officer - The Role:

    You will work as part of a busy, collaborative communications team to deliver clear, consistent and engaging communications to residents, employees, councillors and stakeholders. Your primary focus will be promoting the council's achievements, demonstrating the positive impact of its services and showing how the council improves local people's lives. You will manage multiple projects, create compelling content and build positive relationships across council services and external partners.

    Senior Communications Officer - Key Responsibilities:

    - Produce clear, accurate and engaging content for websites, newsletters, social media, briefing notes and press releases

    - Develop and deliver communications and engagement plans that promote the council's priorities, services and achievements

    - Create case studies, success stories and community outcomes for use across media and digital channels

    - Manage and monitor social media channels, creating engaging content and responding to enquiries

    - Create and maintain website content that is accurate, accessible and user-focused

    - Support internal communications activities to keep employees informed about council priorities and organisational change

    - Build effective relationships with colleagues, partners and media to gather information and promote council achievements

    - Monitor media coverage and social media activity, identifying opportunities and reputational risks

    - Evaluate campaign effectiveness and report on performance metrics

    - Participate in the 24/7 communications on-call rota and work outside normal hours when necessary

    Senior Communications Officer - You:

    - Excellent communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills

    - Highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines

    - Experienced in developing and delivering communications campaigns and engagement activities

    - Skilled in creating engaging content across digital and traditional channels

    - Confident in managing corporate social media platforms and online communities

    - Passionate about storytelling and showcasing positive outcomes for residents and communities

    - Collaborative team player equally confident working independently and using your own initiative
