How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Our client, a specialist highways and transport consultancy, is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineering Consultant to join its Design team in London. The role will involve traffic engineering design, road safety, data interpretation and project management across a varied portfolio of local authority schemes. This is a full-time, permanent position with hybrid working, comprising three days in the office and two days from home.

    Key Responsibilities:

Lead and contribute to feasibility and concept designs for highways, active travel and traffic schemes, including junctions, crossings and cycle routes.
Apply relevant design standards and guidance, including DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20 and GG142, to produce technically sound and deliverable designs.
Use AutoCAD, QGIS and vehicle tracking or swept path software to develop and assess highway layouts.
Undertake road safety assessments, including collision data reviews, visibility assessments and the identification of appropriate safety interventions.
Interpret traffic and transport monitoring data, such as cycle counts, turning movements and queue length surveys, to inform design and recommendations.
Manage multiple concurrent projects, coordinating surveys, site visits, consultations, programmes, budgets and stakeholder requirements.
Build effective relationships with local government clients and support public consultation, workshops, written engagement materials and technical presentations.
Contribute to strategy and policy work, including transport strategies, technical notes, literature reviews and policy appraisals.

    Job Requirements:

Degree in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
Solid understanding of civil engineering principles applied to highways and traffic engineering schemes.
Experience in road safety assessment and design, including collision data analysis and safety scheme development.
Experience working directly with local government clients, ideally within London boroughs.
Proven ability to manage several projects simultaneously and deliver work to agreed programmes and budgets.
Confidence interpreting monitoring and survey data to support design decisions and client recommendations.
Working knowledge of relevant highways standards and guidance, including DMRB, Manual for Streets and LTN 1/20.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or QGIS, with strong written and verbal communication skills.

    Desirable Experience:

Experience using Power BI or similar data analysis and reporting tools.
Formal project management training or equivalent project delivery experience.
Understanding of TRO/TMO processes, School Streets, parking and kerbside schemes.
Exposure to transport strategy, policy development or technical literature reviews.
Professional membership of a relevant institution, such as CIHT, ICE or IHE.

    Benefits:

Hybrid working, with three days in the London office and two days from home.
25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.
    Standard pension contribution.
    Gym membership.
Professional membership fees covered for a relevant institution.
Opportunities to work on highways, active travel, traffic engineering and transport strategy projects.
