How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Job Title: Town Planner

    Location: Bristol

    Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a leading multi-disciplinary property consultancy in their search for a Town Planner to join their growing Bristol team.

    This is a fantastic opportunity for a planner with 2+ years' experience who is looking to take the next step in their consultancy career, gain greater project exposure and continue developing their technical and client-facing experience.

    The Role

    Joining an established planning team, you'll work across a varied portfolio of projects covering Residential, Retail, Healthcare, Automotive & Roadside and Commercial sectors.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    Supporting and managing the preparation and submission of planning applications, appeals and pre-application enquiries
    * Undertaking planning appraisals and providing planning advice to clients
    * Researching and interpreting planning policy, legislation and local planning matters
    * Preparing planning reports, statements and supporting documentation
    * Liaising with Local Planning Authorities, statutory consultees, consultants and other stakeholders
    * Attending site visits, client meetings, project meetings and planning committees where required
    * Supporting planning negotiations and progressing applications through the planning process
    * Providing clear and commercially focused planning advice
    * Managing your own workload and delivering projects within agreed deadlines
    * Maintaining high standards of work in line with internal QA procedures
    * Supporting client relationship management and wider business development activityThe Candidate

    We're looking for a motivated planning professional with at least 2 years' relevant experience who is keen to progress within a leading consultancy.

    You'll ideally have:

    2+ years' experience within town planning
    * Previous consultancy or relevant planning experience
    * A degree in Town Planning or a related subject
    * Experience with planning applications, appeals and/or pre-application advice
    * A strong understanding of the UK planning system and planning policy
    * Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    * Strong organisational and time management skills
    * The ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines
    * A proactive and commercially aware approach
    * MRTPI status or a clear ambition to work towards chartership
    * A genuine interest in developing your career within planning consultancyThe Package
