How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job Overview

    Senior Fire Engineer job in Chatham, Kent, working within an established fire engineering team on complex projects across commercial, residential, education, transport, healthcare, hospitality and nuclear sectors. This role suits an experienced fire engineer with extensive UK project delivery experience, combining technical fire engineering, project leadership, client-facing delivery and mentoring responsibilities across all project stages.

    Role & Responsibilities

    Lead complex fire engineering projects through required stages

    Review technical packages during RIBA Stages 4 and 5

    Produce reports and implement fire strategies during construction

    Lead workshops and mentor junior fire engineering team members

    Manage project financials, quality planning and client relationships

    You will remain client facing throughout project lifecycles, coordinating technical delivery and contributing to work winning activities.

    Skills & Experience Required

    Relevant accredited BEng Hons, MEng or MSc qualification

    CEng, MRICS or MCABE, or working towards accreditation

    Minimum Associate membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers

    Extensive experience delivering fire-engineered solutions on UK projects

    Strong knowledge of UK fire legislation and design guidance

    You must be able to manage multiple concurrent projects and tight deadlines. Applicants from New Zealand or Australia may be considered where experience covers similar regulations, and a UK Driving Licence with access to your own vehicle is required.

    Salary & Benefits

    £50,000 - £65,000, negotiable, with 45p per mile mileage allowance, Electric Car Benefit, chartership and additional bonus schemes, 27 days holiday plus Bank Holidays, hybrid working, 6% pension, private healthcare, childcare scheme, life cover and continuous professional development.
