How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Principal Infrastructure Engineer

    Wigan

    £50,000 - £60,000

    We are looking for an experienced Civil Engineer to join a large, multi-disciplinary consultant out of their Wigan office, working on and managing a range of sectors/projects

    The Role

    As a Principal Infrastructure Engineer, you will take a leading role in the delivery of infrastructure design projects, ensuring technical excellence, commercial awareness, and effective team coordination.

    You will be responsible for managing multiple schemes simultaneously, providing strategic technical direction, and maintaining strong relationships with clients and approving authorities.

    Key Responsibilities

    Manage, lead, and deliver infrastructure designs for multiple projects on time and within budget.
    Negotiate technical approvals for adoptable works (S104, S38, S278 agreements)
    Oversee highway and drainage strategies, ensuring high-quality outputs.
    Maintain effective communication with the internal design team, clients, and external stakeholders.
    Support and mentor junior engineers where appropriate.

    Qualifications & Experience

    5–10+ years’ experience in a similar role within a consultancy environment.
    Degree or HNC qualified in Civil Engineering (or related discipline).
    Strong working knowledge of:
    Highway design and ground modelling
    Drainage design and hydraulic modelling, including Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS)
    External works levels design,

    Ideally, you’ll have experience with software packages such as AutoCAD, PDS, Civil3D, MicroDrainage or Flow.
