How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Engineering Buyer

    Location: Great Gransden

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Engineering Buyer to join a successful and growing engineering manufacturer based in Great Gransden.

This is a varied, hands-on purchasing role where you will be responsible for sourcing and procuring engineered components, raw materials, tooling and technical services required across manufacturing and engineering projects.

Working closely with engineering, production and quality teams, you will help ensure materials and components are sourced at the right quality, cost and lead time, while building strong supplier relationships and identifying opportunities to improve purchasing performance.

    The Role

You will manage the sourcing and purchasing of engineered components, raw materials, tooling and technical services, obtaining and evaluating supplier quotations and negotiating pricing, contracts and commercial terms.

A key part of the position will involve interpreting engineering drawings, technical specifications and Bills of Materials (BOMs) to ensure purchasing requirements are clearly understood and accurately communicated to suppliers.

You will monitor supplier performance across cost, quality and delivery, resolve supply chain issues such as late deliveries or specification discrepancies, and work closely with internal engineering, production and quality teams.

You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate procurement information including pricing, lead times, supplier performance and inventory data, while identifying cost-saving opportunities through alternative sourcing, supplier optimisation and value engineering.

The role will also support New Product Introduction (NPI) projects, sourcing prototype materials and engaging with suppliers to ensure technical and commercial requirements are achieved.

    About You

You will ideally have previous experience as an Engineering Buyer, Technical Buyer, Manufacturing Buyer, Buyer or Procurement Specialist within an engineering or manufacturing environment.

You should have a good understanding of manufacturing processes, materials and supply chain principles, together with strong supplier negotiation and relationship management skills.

Experience reading engineering drawings, technical specifications and BOMs would be highly beneficial, along with experience using ERP or MRP systems.

You will need strong commercial awareness, good analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to work effectively with engineering, production, quality and supply chain teams.

Experience within engineering, industrial manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, electronics or a similar technical sector would be advantageous.

    Qualifications

A Degree, HNC or HND in Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Procurement or a related discipline would be beneficial.

A CIPS qualification, or working towards CIPS accreditation, would also be advantageous, although this is not essential.

    Benefits

    Annual performance-related bonus

22 days' holiday plus Bank Holidays, increasing to 26 days with service
