How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description - the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Safety & Reliability Engineer to join a highly specialised engineering team supporting critical defence programmes in Bristol. This is a unique opportunity for a Safety & Reliability Engineer to work across some of the most advanced aero, naval and defence gas turbine applications in service today and under development for the future.

Working within a niche team, the Safety & Reliability Engineer will be responsible for assessing, understanding and predicting how complex systems and components perform throughout their operational life, ensuring safety, reliability and maintainability remain at the forefront of engineering decision-making.

You will support a broad portfolio of programmes spanning defence aerospace and naval propulsion systems, including mature and in-service engines, legacy platforms and new applications. The work involves analysing real-world service issues, investigating failures, evaluating risk and supporting engineering teams in making informed decisions, often with incomplete information.

    Key Responsibilities

Perform Safety, Reliability, Maintainability and Predictability assessments across defence and naval programmes.
Conduct and create Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analyses (FMECA), including both new assessments and updates to historical documentation.
Carry out Hazard Analysis, Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA) and other safety engineering activities.
Investigate in-service failures and determine root causes, failure mechanisms and operational impacts.
Analyse component-by-component failure behaviour to understand system-level consequences.
Apply statistical techniques and mathematical modelling to quantify uncertainty, failure rates and risk exposure.
Support reliability growth activities and reliability predictions for new and existing products. What We're Looking For

We are interested in candidates who have worked in Safety Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Systems Safety, Functional Safety, RAMS or related disciplines.

    You should have:

Proven experience within a Safety & Reliability Engineer position or a closely related engineering discipline.
Experience on developing new FMECA's and updating exiting packages
Strong understanding of FMECA, FMEA, Hazard Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and risk assessment methodologies.
Good mathematical and statistical analysis skills.
Experience investigating failures and determining their impact on system performance and operational capability.
An engineering approach to problem-solving with the ability to evaluate incomplete or ambiguous information.
Understanding of gas turbine principles and associated systems would be highly advantageous.Next steps

We will only accept workers operating via an Umbrella or PAYE engagement model.

If you are interested in applying for this position and meet the criteria outlined above, please click the link to apply and we will contact you with an update in due course.
