How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Caretaker with Enhanced DBS
    School term hours: 10:00am–6:00pm
    Half Term & School Holidays: 8:00am–4:00pm
    Pay: £13.70–£13.92 per hour
    Keyholder: Yes
    Reports to: Site Manager  / Business Manager
    Start date: Immediate, must hold and valid Enhanced DBS. 

    Job Purpose

    Carry out general maintenance and repairs around the school site.
    Undertake minor repairs and practical tasks, including putting up boards, fixing items and other general maintenance duties.
    Unblock toilets and deal with routine plumbing and drainage issues.
    Carry out drain clearing and other basic site maintenance as required.
    Undertake porterage duties, including moving furniture, equipment and deliveries safely around the school.
    Carry out litter picking and emptying of bins across the school site.
    Complete daily and weekly health and safety checks as required.
    Report any hazards, defects, damage or maintenance issues to the Site Manager or Business Manager.
    Assist with maintaining a safe, secure and well-presented school environment.
    Support the Site Manager with the preparation and organisation of the school premises for events and activities.
    Act as a keyholder and assist with opening and securing the school premises when required.
    Respond to maintenance and site-related requests from the Site Manager and/or Business Manager.
    Undertake any other reasonable duties required to support the effective running of the school site.Health & SafetyThe Caretaker will be expected to:

    Follow the school's health and safety procedures and policies at all times.
    Carry out assigned inspections and checks accurately and report any concerns promptly.
    Use tools, equipment and cleaning/maintenance materials safely and appropriately.
    Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their work.
    Ensure any maintenance issues that cannot be safely resolved are reported to the appropriate member of staff.Keyholder Responsibilities as a keyholder, the postholder will be responsible for supporting the security of the premises, including opening and/or securing the school site when required and following the school's procedures for keys, alarms and site security.

    Must hold a valid Enhdanced DBS
    Practical and hands-on approach to work.
    Ability to carry out general maintenance and minor repairs.
    Reliable, responsible and punctual.
    Ability to work independently and use initiative.
    Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
    Ability to undertake physical duties, including lifting, moving equipment and porterage.
    Understanding of the importance of health and safety.
    Good communication skills.
    Willingness to undertake a range of duties as required by the Site Manager or Business Manager.
    Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism within a school environment.Desirable
    Previous experience in a caretaker, premises, maintenance or facilities role.
    Experience working within a school or similar environment.
    Relevant maintenance, health and safety or facilities qualifications.
    Basic knowledge of plumbing, drainage, carpentry or other general maintenance work.The Caretaker will work closely with staff across the school to ensure the premises remain safe, secure and well maintained.
    Additional InformationThis is a varied and practical role, and the postholder should be prepared to undertake additional reasonable duties that support the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the school
