How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    About you

If you’re an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a background in fit out and refurbishment, this could be a really interesting opportunity if you’re looking for something with a bit more ownership.

The business is building its presence in Scotland and is looking for a QS who can play an important part in that growth. You’ll be joining a small team initially, so you won’t simply be one of several Quantity Surveyors doing the same job. You’ll have plenty of visibility and the opportunity to make a genuine contribution as the operation develops.

The work will be predominantly high end commercial and office fit out, so you’ll need to understand the commercial demands of delivering quality projects in this market.

You’ll be comfortable taking responsibility for your own projects and working closely with the operational team from the early stages through to final account.

    Your experience

You’ll need solid experience as a Quantity Surveyor within fit out and refurbishment.

Experience across commercial interiors, office fit out or high end fit out would be particularly relevant.

You’ll understand procurement, subcontractor packages, cost planning, valuations, variations, CVRs and final accounts. You’ll be comfortable managing the commercial performance of projects and making sure costs and margins are properly controlled throughout.

You’ll need to be commercially confident, organised and comfortable working with a degree of autonomy.

As the Scottish operation is still relatively new, you’ll need to enjoy being part of a small team and be prepared to get involved rather than working within a heavily structured commercial department.

It would also be useful if you’ve built relationships within the Scottish fit out and refurbishment market. You don’t need to be a salesperson, although having an established network and knowing the local subcontractor and supplier market would certainly be beneficial.

What you will be doing with your experience

You’ll take commercial responsibility for fit out and refurbishment projects across Scotland, predominantly within the high end commercial and office market.

You’ll be involved from the early stages of a project, reviewing costs and subcontractor packages before taking responsibility for the commercial management of the work once it is live.

You’ll procure subcontractors and suppliers, place orders, manage valuations and variations, produce CVRs, monitor costs and forecasts and work through to final account.

A big part of the role will be making sure projects remain commercially on track while working closely with the operational team to deal with issues before they become problems.

Because the Scottish office is in its early stages, you’ll have more influence than you might have within a large established regional operation. There is a genuine opportunity to help shape how the commercial side of the team develops as the workload grows.

The initial target is around £3 million of work in the first year, which the business believes is very achievable.

The salary is £50,000 to £60,000, plus a £6,000 car allowance and an annual bonus.

    About the business

You’ll be joining an established construction and fit out business that is now developing its presence in Scotland.

While other parts of the business have a strong focus on industrial work, your role will be primarily focused on high end commercial and office fit out and refurbishment projects.

The Scottish team is currently small, with plans to grow as the workload develops.

That creates a good opportunity if you like the idea of joining something relatively early, taking ownership of the commercial side of your projects and seeing the team develop around you.

They are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor who understands fit out, knows how to protect the commercial position of a project and wants to play an important part in establishing the business in Scotland.
