How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Role Overview

    The Traffic Management Depot Manager is responsible for the effective day-to-day management of the depot, ensuring that all traffic management equipment, vehicles, materials and personnel are available, compliant and ready to support operational requirements.

    The role combines people management, fleet and equipment control, health and safety, logistics, stock management and operational planning. The Depot Manager will work closely with Operations, Contracts, Transport, Commercial and Health & Safety teams to ensure the depot operates safely, efficiently and cost-effectively.

    Key Responsibilities

    Depot Operations
    •Manage the day-to-day running of the traffic management depot.
    •Ensure the depot is clean, organised, secure and operated efficiently.
    •Plan and coordinate the movement of equipment, vehicles and materials in and out of the depot.
    •Ensure sufficient resources are available to meet operational and project requirements.
    •Maintain effective depot procedures and working practices.
    •Monitor depot performance and identify opportunities for improvement.

    Fleet & Vehicle Management
    •Oversee the availability, allocation and condition of company vehicles.
    •Ensure vehicles are maintained, inspected and serviced in accordance with company procedures and legal requirements.
    •Coordinate vehicle inspections, defect reporting, repairs and maintenance.
    •Monitor vehicle utilisation and availability.
    •Ensure drivers complete required daily/weekly checks and documentation.
    •Work with transport providers and maintenance suppliers where required.

    Traffic Management Equipment & Stock
    •Maintain accurate records of traffic management equipment, plant, signs, cones, barriers, lighting and associated materials.
    •Ensure equipment is inspected, maintained and fit for purpose before being issued.
    •Manage stock levels and arrange replenishment where required.
    •Monitor damaged, missing or obsolete equipment.
    •Implement effective equipment sign-in/sign-out procedures.
    •Reduce equipment loss, damage and unnecessary replacement costs.

    Health, Safety & Compliance
    •Promote a strong health and safety culture throughout the depot.
    •Ensure depot activities comply with company policies, risk assessments and relevant legislation.
    •Ensure appropriate PPE and safety equipment is available and used.
    •Carry out or support regular depot inspections and audits.
    •Investigate and report accidents, incidents, near misses and equipment damage.
    •Ensure relevant records and documentation are maintained.
    •Support compliance with applicable traffic management standards, codes of practice and client requirements.

    People Management
    •Lead, motivate and manage depot-based staff.
    •Allocate duties and ensure appropriate staffing levels.
    •Support recruitment, induction, training and development.
    •Conduct regular performance reviews and address performance issues appropriately.
    •Manage attendance, holidays and other personnel matters in line with company procedures.
    •Ensure employees hold the appropriate qualifications, competencies and training for their roles.

    Logistics & Operational Support
    •Coordinate deliveries and collections to and from sites.
    •Liaise with Site Supervisors, Project Managers and operational teams regarding equipment requirements.
    •Ensure equipment is prepared and dispatched in accordance with site requirements.
    •Manage urgent or short-notice operational requests where required.
    •Coordinate subcontractor and supplier deliveries.

    Financial & Commercial Control
    •Monitor and manage depot expenditure and operating costs against agreed budgets.
    •Prepare and review weekly financial figures, including revenue, costs, labour, equipment, vehicle and other depot-related expenditure.
    •Provide weekly financial updates and variance analysis to the Operations Manager / Regional Manager.
    •Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial forecasting, identifying potential overspend, additional costs and future resource requirements.
    •Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast and take corrective action where required.
    •Chase outstanding Purchase Orders (POs) with clients, contracts teams and relevant internal departments to ensure all chargeable works and costs are covered by an authorised PO.
    •Ensure POs are raised and received in a timely manner before work is undertaken where applicable.
    •Monitor outstanding POs and escalate delays or issues that could affect invoicing or cash flow.
    •Ensure completed works are accurately recorded and supported by the appropriate documentation to enable timely invoicing.
    •Work closely with the Commercial and Accounts teams to resolve invoicing queries, disputed costs and outstanding payments.
    •Monitor equipment damage, loss and replacement costs and identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary expenditure.
    •Obtain and review supplier quotations in accordance with company procedures.
    •Monitor supplier and subcontractor costs against agreed rates and budgets.
    •Identify opportunities to improve depot efficiency and reduce operating costs.
    •Assist with annual budgets, periodic reforecasts and financial planning.
    •Ensure purchasing is carried out in accordance with company procedures and delegated authority levels.
    •Maintain appropriate records to support financial reporting, forecasting and audit requirements.

    Administration & Reporting
    •Maintain accurate depot, vehicle, equipment and stock records.
    •Produce regular reports on fleet, equipment, stock and depot performance.
    •Maintain records of inspections, maintenance and repairs.
    •Ensure relevant documentation is completed and filed correctly.
    •Use company systems to record and monitor operational information.
