How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    About the Role

Carmichael UK is recruiting for an experienced Project Manager to join a leading civil engineering contractor delivering a major earthworks package on the Lower Thames Crossing project.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key leadership role on a nationally significant infrastructure scheme. You will take responsibility for the safe, efficient, and profitable delivery of a large-scale earthworks section, managing multidisciplinary teams and working closely with senior project leadership to achieve programme objectives.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in bulk earthworks, mass haul operations, cut and fill activities, and major infrastructure projects, with the ability to lead large teams while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and commercial performance.

    Key Responsibilities

Lead a sectional delivery team to ensure earthworks are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with programme requirements.

Manage day-to-day site operations across large-scale earthworks activities.

Build and maintain strong relationships with the client, project stakeholders, supply chain partners and local communities.

Drive a positive safety culture and ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental requirements.

Monitor project progress, identify risks and implement mitigation measures.

Produce and manage detailed delivery programmes, resource plans and project budgets.

Work closely with commercial, engineering and support functions to ensure successful project delivery.

Ensure compliance with project specifications, technical standards and materials management requirements.

Identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency and cost performance.

Provide regular progress updates to senior leadership and contribute to project-wide strategic planning.

Support the development and mentoring of site management and engineering teams.

    Requirements

Proven experience as a Project Manager within civil engineering or major infrastructure.

Significant experience delivering bulk earthworks, linear earthworks, mass haul or large-scale earthmoving projects.

Strong understanding of earthmoving plant, production outputs, methodologies and operational constraints.

Experience managing large site teams and multiple work fronts.

Ability to develop and manage project budgets and resourced programmes.

Good commercial awareness with a track record of delivering projects successfully.

Strong knowledge of earthworks specifications, materials management and construction methodologies.

Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.

Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced project environment.

    Relevant CSCS card.

    SMSTS preferred.

Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline advantageous.

    Why Apply?

This role offers the opportunity to join a major infrastructure project at a critical stage of delivery, working with one of the UK's most respected contractors in the earthworks and civil engineering sector. You will be part of a high-performing team delivering a project that will have a lasting impact on the UK's transport network.
