How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Salary: £13.77 + extra hours paid on shifts + bonus
    Benefits: 25 days holiday + bank holidays, pension, life assurance, employee discounts & more

    The Opportunity

    Recruitment Pro is recruiting on behalf of a well-established, family-owned business and one of the UK’s leading steel distribution and processing organisations for a Steel Operative to join its Scunthorpe operation.

    With more than 160 years of heritage, our client has grown into a substantial operation with 29 sites across the UK and Ireland and more than 120,000 tonnes of steel stock.

    Despite its size, the business remains family owned and has built its success around its people. Continued investment in employees, modern processing machinery, technology and materials-handling equipment enables the company to provide an exceptional service to customers across the UK.

    This is a forward-thinking organisation that values hard work, ambition, teamwork and new ideas, making this an excellent opportunity for someone looking for a secure role with a long-established employer.

    The Role

    Working within a busy steel processing and distribution environment, you will be responsible for helping ensure customer orders are processed and dispatched safely, accurately and efficiently.

    The position operates on a rotating three-shift pattern, Monday to Friday:

    6:00am – 2:00pm
    10:00pm – 6:00am
    2:00pm – 10:00pm

    Alternative shifts are available but do include rotating AM/PM or set NS.

    The role is varied and hands-on, involving the movement and handling of steel products, operating machinery and supporting the preparation and dispatch of customer orders.

    Key Responsibilities

    As a Warehouse Operative, your duties will include:

    * Picking computer-generated customer orders, including the repetitive handling and lifting of heavy and large items.

    * Operating CNC machinery, including drills and saws.

    * Accurately recording stock movements and material usage.

    * Ensuring products are correctly identified and using measuring equipment where required.

    * Moving and transferring stock safely to designated locations using materials-handling equipment.

    * Operating forklift trucks where trained and authorised.

    * Supporting the preparation and dispatch of customer orders.

    * Working effectively both independently and as part of the wider warehouse team.

    What We’re Looking For

    We’re looking for someone who is reliable, safety-conscious and comfortable working in a physical, fast-moving warehouse and manufacturing environment.

    Essential

    * Previous experience operating overhead cranes.

    * A good understanding of workplace Health & Safety.

    Experience operating a forklift truck or side-loader would be advantageous.

    You’ll need the drive and confidence to contribute to a collaborative working environment while maintaining high standards of safety, accuracy and productivity.

    What’s On Offer?

    Joining this established business provides more than just a competitive salary. The package includes:

    * Highly competitive salary

    * Overtime opportunities

    * 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays

    * Company pension scheme

    * Life assurance

    * Cycle to Work scheme

    * Employee discount scheme, providing savings across retail and leisure
