How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated legal support professional with experience in child care public law and legal aid work. The firm represents families and children in highly sensitive matters, so delivering exceptional client care and maintaining high professional standards is essential.

    Please note: Applicants must have previous experience within Child Care Public Law. This position is not suitable for law graduates seeking a temporary stepping-stone role. The firm is looking for someone who is committed to developing a long-term career within a legal secretarial position.

    The Role

    Working within a busy and supportive team, you will provide comprehensive administrative and secretarial support to fee earners handling child care and public law matters.

    Key responsibilities include:

    * Managing urgent inbox communications, including reviewing court orders and time-sensitive correspondence from local authorities and other parties.

    * Scanning and uploading incoming post and documents onto the case management system.

    * Preparing and submitting Legal Aid applications.

    * Handling Legal Aid administration, including document uploads, amendments and funding requests via CCMS.

    * Electronic diary and appointment management.

    * Accurate time recording.

    * Liaising with professionals including independent social workers, psychologists and medical experts.

    * Preparing and compiling electronic court bundles using software such as Bundledocs.

    * Opening new files and carrying out conflict checks in accordance with firm procedures.

    * Preparing closed files for final billing and archiving.

    About You

    To be successful in this role, you will have:

    * At least 1 year's experience working within Child Care Public Law.

    * Fast and accurate typing skills.

    * Strong IT and administrative skills.

    * Experience working with Legal Aid applications and procedures.

    * Working knowledge of CCMS and Legal Aid billing processes.

    * Familiarity with care proceedings, court processes and electronic bundles.

    * Excellent organisational and time management skills.

    * Outstanding attention to detail.

    * A professional and empathetic approach when dealing with vulnerable clients and families.

    * The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

    What's on Offer?

    * Salary of £25,000 - £27,000 dependent on experience.

    * The opportunity to join a respected and established law firm.

    * A supportive team environment.

    * Long-term career stability within a specialist department.

    * Meaningful work supporting children and families through sensitive legal proceedings.

    If you have proven experience within Child Care Public Law and are looking to join a firm where client care, teamwork and quality service are highly valued, we would love to hear from you
