Barnet London | SEMH and Trauma Informed Support
Contract: Part-time, long-term temporary | Start: January 2027
Salary: £105–£120 per day, depending on experience and qualifications. The highest rate is reserved for candidates with substantial relevant SEND experience and/or specialist training.
Hours: 8:30am–3:30pm, agreed working days to be confirmed (term time only).

About the role
Can you remain calm, keep boundaries clear and help a pupil feel ready to try again? Teach Now is seeking an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant for an all-through special school in Barnet, supporting primary and secondary pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), including pupils with trauma-related needs.
The setting places relationships and predictable routines at the centre of learning. As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils who may find trust, transitions or classroom demands difficult. The role combines learning support with co-regulation, restorative conversations and practical help to re-engage with school life.
Key responsibilities
Support learning in class, through 1:1 work and in targeted small groups.
Follow individual support plans and use agreed de-escalation strategies.
Help pupils recognise emotions, access regulation breaks and return to learning.
Support transitions, break times and peer relationships with calm, consistent boundaries.
Record concerns and progress objectively and work closely with teaching and pastoral staff.
Requirements
Experience supporting SEND pupils in a school is essential, including SEMH and distressed behaviour.
An understanding of trauma-informed practice and behaviour as communication.
Sound professional boundaries and confidence responding calmly to dysregulation; relevant training is welcome.
You must be based in the UK, have the right to work in the UK and be able to commit to a long-term placement. Visa sponsorship is not available. A strong commitment to safeguarding is essential.
