We are currently recruiting for Field Service Engineers to join a specialist healthcare service supporting wheelchair users across the North East. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is practical, hands-on and enjoys fixing things, with full training provided.
You will be responsible for visiting service users in their homes, schools and care settings to carry out repairs, maintenance and safety checks on manual and powered wheelchairs and specialist seating. The role is varied and rewarding, as the work you carry out can have a direct impact on people's independence and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnose and repair faults on manual and powered wheelchairs.
Work with mechanical, electrical and electronic components including motors, batteries, controllers, wiring, brakes, castors and tyres.
Carry out planned maintenance and safety checks.
Attend urgent and emergency repairs when required.
Fit and adjust replacement components and accessories.
Keep accurate records of work completed using a handheld tablet.
Manage stock of parts within the company vehicle and request replacement parts when required.
Carry out daily vehicle checks and follow all health and safety, infection control and decontamination procedures.
Communicate professionally and respectfully with service users, families, carers and healthcare professionals.
Work independently while managing your daily workload and prioritising urgent repairs.
About You
We are looking for someone with a practical and hands-on approach who enjoys working with tools and figuring out how things work. Previous engineering experience is not essential, as full training will be provided, but you should have a genuine interest in learning and developing your technical skills.
You will ideally have experience in a mechanical, electrical, vehicle, maintenance or repair-based environment, although practical experience gained through hobbies or DIY will also be considered.
You will need:
A full UK driving licence held for at least 2 years.
No more than 6 points and no major driving endorsements.
Good practical and mechanical ability.
A willingness to learn basic electrical fault-finding.
Good communication and customer service skills.
The ability to work independently and manage your own time.
Confidence using a smartphone or tablet.
A professional, patient and reassuring manner when dealing with vulnerable adults, children and families.
The ability to lift, kneel and handle equipment safely.
Flexibility to join an out-of-hours on-call rota once fully trained, approximately 1 week in 9.
Previous Experience
Experience in any of the following areas would be beneficial:
Mechanical or electrical engineering
Vehicle maintenance or vehicle technician work
Bicycle or e-bike mechanics
Tyre fitting or fast-fit
Maintenance or facilities
Handyperson work
Mobility equipment or mobility scooters
Warehouse or delivery work with strong practical skills
Engineering or motor vehicle apprenticeships
Military or service backgrounds
Healthcare or community equipment
