How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

At EY, we’re all in to shape your future with confidence.

We’ll help you succeed in a globally connected powerhouse of diverse teams and take your career wherever you want it to go.

Join EY and help to build a better working world.

Assistant Director – Operational Decision Intelligence - London

    The opportunity

At EY-Parthenon, our unique combination of transformative strategy, transactions, tax and corporate finance delivers real-world value – solutions that work in practice, not just on paper. Benefiting from EY’s full spectrum of services, we’ve reimagined strategic consulting to work in a world of increasing complexity. With deep functional and sector expertise, paired with innovative AI-powered technology and an investor mindset, we partner with CEOs, boards, private equity and governments every step of the way.

EY-Parthenon’s Operational Decision Intelligence team is a rapidly growing part of our business that combines deep Operational Research, modelling and analytics expertise with a commercial consulting mindset to help clients address complex strategic and operational challenges.

We work with major corporate clients, government departments and other public sector bodies, advising them on complex strategic, commercial and operational decisions. Our projects often involve managing multiple stakeholders and high degrees of complexity and uncertainty.  Decision making in this environment requires strong client management and communication skills, in addition to a rigorous analytical mindset and excellent data handling skills.

Although the team is largely London-based, we operate as a national team and many of our engagements involve multinational clients.  This role will most likely require some travel within the UK and could require overseas working from time to time.

This role will specifically require Operational Research skills with experience in optimisation and advanced modelling and analytics.

    Your Key Responsibilities

Leading a growth area for the team, being the go-to person across the sales cycle and delivery of engagements.

Leading delivery throughout the life-cycle of an assignment – requirements definition, specification, data collection, solution design, development, testing, documentation, implementation and user training.

Leading the team delivery of projects, managing and supervising the project team and supporting junior team members to develop their skills and technical expertise.

Managing risks during the sales and delivery lifecycle and working alongside more senior team members and clients to mitigate risk.

Grow an internal and external network to create new opportunities for the team.

Work directly with clients to design and build complex models/algorithms and employ insightful visualisation to translate the solution into easy-to-understand outputs.

Identify opportunities for utilising AI to innovate and/or drive efficiency within projects.

Identify new opportunities in the market and develop new business and offerings alongside Directors and Partners in the team.

    What we look for:

A strong academic background, e.g. Degree in Operational Research or equivalent in a numerate or analytical subject.

Technical familiarity with optimisation modelling (e.g. network, scheduling or resource allocation)

Direct experience with Operational Research techniques such as discrete event simulation, mathematical programming or system dynamics.

Experience of working within or providing specialist modelling/analytical support for operational performance improvement, or developing analysis underpinning strategic change.

Strong understanding of business issues and how advanced analytics can be used to support businesses to make better decisions.

Experience in managing projects, from defining requirements, designing project plans and managing performance against plan through the project lifecycle.

Experience in business development and the development of compelling proposals for new work.

Effective communication skills to be able to work collaboratively with a team, in a concerted effort towards delivering work products of the highest standard as well as coaching team members to get the most out of them.

Previous evidence of working with clients and model users to identify their particular needs, and evidence of problem-solving previous client problems.

Ideally, you'll also have some of the following:

Experience in SQL Server, MS Excel and VBA. Experience of modelling languages such as R or Python is a plus.

Experience of employing visualisation tools to display outputs in a compelling way.

Experience of user interface development e.g. using React.

Sector experience in one or more of the following areas:
    Consumer products

    Logistics

    Utilities

    Oil & Gas

Experience in coaching more junior staff to maximise performance.
