How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Location: Aust, Bristol – with travel across project sites
Project: SBIM – Severn Bridges Inspection and Maintenance

    About the opportunity

Ardour Associates is recruiting a Site Engineer to join our client’s team on the SBIM project, supporting the delivery of bridge maintenance, structural repairs and improvement works.

This is an opportunity to work on major infrastructure assets, contributing to the safe and successful delivery of technically varied engineering works.

Previous experience working on structures or bridges is essential. We welcome candidates with experience gained through construction, maintenance, refurbishment or structural repair projects.

    The role

You will provide day-to-day engineering support to the site team, ensuring works are delivered in accordance with technical drawings, specifications, quality requirements and agreed programmes. Working closely with site management, subcontractors and designers, you will help resolve technical issues and maintain accurate records throughout delivery.

    Key responsibilities

    * Undertake setting out, surveying and dimensional checks for structural and civil engineering works.

    * Interpret construction drawings and specifications, ensuring site teams understand the technical requirements.

    * Support the planning and delivery of bridge maintenance, refurbishment and structural repair activities.

    * Monitor workmanship and materials to ensure compliance with approved designs and quality standards.

    * Complete inspection and test plans, quality checks and supporting records.

    * Identify technical queries, raise requests for information and liaise with designers to resolve issues.

    * Coordinate with subcontractors and operational teams to support safe, efficient delivery.

    * Assist with risk assessments, method statements and task briefings.

    * Maintain site diaries, progress records, survey information and as-built documentation.

    * Monitor progress against the programme and flag potential delays or delivery risks.

    * Support compliance with site health, safety and environmental requirements.

    * Assist with handover documentation and the close-out of outstanding works.

    Essential skills and experience

    * Previous experience as a Site Engineer within civil engineering or construction.

    * Practical experience on bridge or structural projects, such as reinforced concrete structures, structural steelwork, retaining structures, bridge repairs or refurbishment.

    * Competence in setting out and surveying using equipment such as total stations and digital levels.

    * Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.

    * An understanding of site quality assurance, inspections and construction records.

    * Strong organisation, communication and problem-solving skills.

    * A proactive approach to safety and the ability to work effectively with site teams and subcontractors.

    * A relevant civil engineering or construction qualification, or equivalent practical experience.

    * An appropriate CSCS card and a full UK driving licence.

    Desirable experience

    * Experience working on highway structures or within a live operational environment.

    * Exposure to concrete repairs, waterproofing, bridge joints, bearings or steelwork repairs.

    * Awareness of temporary works and access arrangements associated with structural maintenance.

    * Experience supporting works involving traffic management or restricted access.

    * SSSTS or SMSTS qualification.
