How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Site Engineer – Major Construction Project

Bath, Somerset | Temporary to Permanent | Tier 1 / Tier 2 Main Contracting

O'Neill & Brennan are recruiting for experienced Site Engineers to join the delivery team on a large, flagship construction scheme in Bath.

We are looking to appoint technically capable, proactive engineers with strong Tier 1 or Tier 2 main contracting backgrounds who can demonstrate meaningful involvement in the successful delivery of substantial construction projects.

This opportunity will initially be offered on a temporary-to-permanent basis, providing the successful candidate with the opportunity to establish themselves within the project team before transitioning into a long-term, permanent position.

The role would suit an engineer who takes genuine ownership of their work, maintains high technical standards and is comfortable operating within the demands of a major construction project.

    The Role

Working alongside the wider construction and engineering teams, you will play an integral role in ensuring works are delivered accurately, safely and in accordance with the project specifications, drawings and construction programme.

    Key responsibilities will include:

Undertaking setting out and surveying duties across designated areas and construction packages.

Ensuring works are completed accurately and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications and engineering requirements.

Coordinating with Site Managers, subcontractors and the wider project team to maintain construction progress.

Reviewing technical drawings, identifying discrepancies and assisting with the resolution of engineering queries.

Managing quality assurance documentation, inspection records and associated technical reporting.

Supporting the preparation and implementation of RAMS and ensuring engineering activities comply with site health & safety requirements.

Monitoring subcontractor works to ensure compliance with design specifications and required tolerances.

Maintaining accurate site records, as-built information and survey data.

Proactively identifying potential technical or programme-related issues and assisting with their resolution.

    Candidate Requirements

We are particularly interested in speaking with engineers who have developed their careers within established main contracting environments and can demonstrate experience working on complex, large-scale construction schemes.

To be considered, applicants should demonstrate:

Proven Site Engineering experience with a recognised Tier 1 or Tier 2 main contractor.

Previous involvement in construction projects valued at £20 million or above.

Strong setting out and surveying capabilities, including proficiency with relevant engineering equipment.

Excellent understanding of construction drawings, specifications, tolerances and quality assurance procedures.

Experience coordinating engineering activities with site management teams and specialist subcontractors.

Strong technical problem-solving abilities and excellent attention to detail.

A proactive, organised and dependable approach to site engineering.

The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a wider project delivery team.

A consistent employment history supported by strong, verifiable professional references.

    Essential Requirements:

Valid CSCS Card (appropriate to the position).

Relevant construction or civil engineering qualification, or demonstrable equivalent industry experience.

Competence using modern setting out and surveying equipment.

    First Aid at Work.

    SMSTS.

    Previous Project Experience & References

Given the scale and profile of this development, candidates must be able to demonstrate meaningful engineering involvement in projects exceeding £20 million in value.

Strong professional references will be required to substantiate previous responsibilities, technical ability, dedication and reliability.

We are particularly interested in engineers who can demonstrate genuine ownership of their allocated works and a consistent record of supporting successful project delivery.

    What's on Offer?

Opportunity to join the delivery team on a significant flagship construction project in Bath.

Temporary-to-permanent engagement, with genuine long-term career prospects.

The opportunity to work alongside an established and experienced construction management team.

Exposure to a substantial, technically demanding construction scheme.

    Competitive remuneration, dependent on experience.

    Interested?

If you are an experienced Site Engineer with a strong main contracting background and a proven history of delivering engineering works on substantial construction projects, we would welcome a confidential conversation.

Please apply with your latest CV, ideally detailing the values, scope and engineering responsibilities associated with your previous projects, or contact Reece Kershaw at O'Neill & Brennan to discuss the opportunity in further detail.
