How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    A well-established property and construction consultancy is looking to recruit a Graduate Building Surveyor to join its established Building Surveying team in Birmingham.

    The consultancy provides a broad range of professional services across the property and construction sector, with Building Surveying forming a key part of its multidisciplinary offering. The Building Surveying team works across a wide range of sectors, including commercial, residential, education, healthcare, leisure, industrial and logistics, giving graduates the opportunity to gain broad and varied experience.

    The role would suit a graduate who is looking to build a long-term career in Building Surveying and is keen to work towards becoming Chartered. The successful candidate will receive structured RICS graduate support and exposure to a wide range of Building Surveying services and projects.

    Graduate Building Surveyor Salary & Benefits:

    £26,000 - £32,000 salary, depending on experience

    25 days' annual leave, plus statutory holidays

    Graduate Building Surveyor Job Overview:

    Joining an established Building Surveying team, you will support the delivery of a broad range of consultancy services for clients across the UK. The team covers services including condition surveys, pre-acquisition and technical due diligence, defect diagnosis and building pathology, refurbishment and remedial works, design and specification, contract administration, planned maintenance, development monitoring, Party Wall and dilapidations.

    The position offers genuine scope to develop your technical and professional skills, with the opportunity to gain experience across the mandatory and core RICS competencies required for APC progression.

    The role will include:

    Assisting with building condition surveys and inspections

    Supporting pre-acquisition and technical due diligence instructions

    Assisting with defect diagnosis and building pathology investigations

    Supporting the preparation of schedules, specifications and tender documentation

    Assisting with refurbishment and remedial works projects

    Supporting Contract Administration and project delivery

    Assisting with planned maintenance and lifecycle assessments

    Developing experience in dilapidations and Party Wall matters

    Supporting project and development monitoring

    Preparing professional reports and technical documentation

    Attending client and site meetings

    Liaising with clients, contractors and other professional consultants

    Travelling nationally where required

    Working towards the relevant RICS competencies as part of an APC programme

    Graduate Building Surveyor Job Requirements:

    RICS-accredited degree in Building Surveying

    Completion of a relevant year-out placement, or at least one year's Building Surveying experience following completion of your degree

    Genuine interest in pursuing a career in Building Surveying

    Strong written and verbal communication skills

    Confident and professional approach

    Good attention to detail and organisational skills

    Ability to work independently as well as part of a wider team

    Full clean UK driving licence

    Access to your own vehicle

    Willingness to travel for work
