How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Temporary Admin Assistant – Assessment Operations (Academic Conduct Team) 

    The Open University | Walton Hall, Milton Keynes 
    Contract: Temporary (start date: 12th October – End date:  30th July 2027) 
    Salary: £13.45 per hour 
    Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week) 
    Work pattern and location: 

    The role is hybrid at Walton Hall, Milton Keynes. 

    Initial training is on site (1-2 weeks), thereafter you will be expected on-site up to once per week or more if your preference is office working.

    About the Role 
    The Open University is a world-leading institution committed to widening access to higher education, underpinned by equality, diversity and inclusion. We are recruiting Temporary Assistants to join the Academic Conduct Team in Assessment Operations (AO) to provide vital administrative support during the annual peak assessment period.  

    You will support the processing of Academic Conduct cases referred to the team and actions following investigation outcomes. The postholder helps ensure that cases are managed accurately and within agreed service levels, contributing to the timely delivery of assessment outcomes for OU students. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain experience within a high-performing operational team at a leading UK university, playing a central role in the assessment lifecycle during a key period of the academic year. 

    Key responsibilities: 

    Process academic conduct referrals in line with established procedures and timescales. 
    Process academic conduct outcomes following conclusion of investigations. 

    Use internal systems and processes to deliver high-quality service to internal and external stakeholders. 

    Any additional tasks to support the operations team.  

    Who we are looking for 

    You will have strong administrative skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to handle routine and high-volume tasks. You should be organised, reliable and able to work as part of a team. 

    Essential skills and experience: 

    Good general education including strong written and spoken English 

    Experience of working collaboratively in a team environment. 

    Proficient with Outlook, Word and Excel, and confident in learning new IT systems, specifically CRM systems (Voice which is a student record system).  

    Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and accurate records, with strong prioritisation skills. 

    High level of attention to detail and ability to spot discrepancies.  

    Able to work effectively to a high volume of routine/ repetitive tasks.

    Shortlisting will take place in March. Interviews will be conducted via MS Teams. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK and be able to travel to the Milton Keynes campus as required.
