How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Associate - Family Law

Family law is about much more than legal expertise. It's about helping people navigate some of life's most challenging and emotional moments with confidence, compassion and trusted advice.

At Slater Heelis, we're proud to do exactly that.

We're looking for an experienced Family Solicitor to join our highly regarded Family team. This is an opportunity to work on a broad range of high-quality matters while being part of a firm where people genuinely enjoy working together, support one another's growth and share a commitment to exceptional client service.

    Why Slater Heelis?

Many firms promise great work, progression opportunities and flexible working. What makes Slater Heelis different is how it feels to be part of the team.

Our Family department is known for its supportive, collaborative and high-energy culture. You'll be surrounded by talented lawyers who are approachable, generous with their time and genuinely invested in each other's success. It's an environment where people enjoy coming to work, celebrate achievements together and support one another through the challenges that naturally come with working in Family Law.

You'll have real day to day access to Partners and senior leaders, working closely alongside experienced lawyers rather than feeling like one of many layers within a large hierarchy. Your contribution will be visible, valued and recognised.

We also believe that outstanding client service comes from lawyers who have the time and space to focus on quality. That's why we take a sustainable approach to performance, with realistic billing expectations that allow our lawyers to concentrate on building strong client relationships and delivering exceptional work rather than simply chasing targets.

As part of the Lawfront Group, we're on an exciting growth journey. Joining now means becoming part of an ambitious future while retaining the culture, flexibility and close-knit feel that have made Slater Heelis such a great place to build a career.

    The Role

You'll manage a varied caseload of private family matters, working closely with Partners and senior colleagues on a broad range of instructions, including:

    Divorce and separation
    Financial remedy matters
Private children disputes, including child arrangements and relocation matters
    Cohabitation disputes
    Pre- and post-nuptial agreements
Matters involving complex assets, businesses and high-net-worth individuals

This role offers exposure to excellent quality work and the opportunity to develop your expertise across a broad range of family law matters while building strong relationships with clients and referrers.

You'll also be encouraged to get involved in networking, business development and helping to contribute to the continued success of the team.

    About You

We're looking for an individual who combines strong technical ability with empathy, emotional intelligence and a genuine passion for helping clients through difficult periods in their lives.

    You'll ideally have:

6+ years' PQE in Family Law
Experience handling a range of family matters, particularly financial remedy and private children work
Excellent client care and relationship management skills
The ability to manage a busy caseload effectively
A collaborative and positive approach to team working
A desire to contribute to the continued growth of a successful department

Most importantly, you'll be someone who values being part of a supportive team and wants to develop your career in an environment where people genuinely care about your success.

    A Place Where Careers Progress

We're committed to investing in our people and creating clear pathways for career development.

In the last year alone, numerous members of the Family team have been promoted - tangible evidence that talent is recognised and rewarded at Slater Heelis.

Whether your ambition is to deepen your technical expertise, develop your profile in the market or work towards a future leadership position, you'll receive the support, guidance and opportunities to help you achieve your goals.

Join a Firm Where You'll Enjoy Law More

This is an opportunity to do interesting, meaningful work alongside great people, with the backing of a firm that values quality, collaboration and long-term career development.

If you're looking for a role where you can make a genuine difference to clients' lives while enjoying the experience of being part of a supportive and successful team, we'd love to hear from you.
