How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    English Teacher - Maternity Cover

    Location: Accrington
    Start Date: November 2026
    Contract: Maternity Cover - potentially until July 2027
    Pay: £175 - £271 per day, depending on experience and pay scale

    Spencer Clarke Group are working with a secondary school in the Accrington area to recruit a qualified English Teacher for a maternity cover position starting in November 2026.

    The role is expected to run on a long-term basis, potentially through until the end of the academic year in July 2027.

    We are looking for a qualified teacher who is confident delivering English across KS3 and KS4 and can take responsibility for planning, delivering lessons and assessing pupil progress throughout the placement.

    The Role

    Full-time English teaching position

    Teaching English across KS3 and KS4

    Maternity cover starting November 2026

    Potential to continue until July 2027

    Full classroom responsibilities including planning, marking and assessment

    Paid to the relevant teacher pay scale at approximately £175 - £271 per day

    Requirements

    Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification

    Experience teaching English within a secondary school setting

    Strong knowledge of the KS3 and KS4 English curriculum

    Confident classroom and behaviour management

    Ability to commit to a long-term maternity cover position

    Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one
