How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

At Smart Managed Solutions, we deliver exceptional engineering and facilities management services to some of the world's most prestigious commercial environments. Our success is built on our people, and we're looking for a passionate and proactive Control of Works Advisor to help maintain the highest standards of safety, compliance, and operational excellence across a flagship client site in Teddington.

If you're an experienced contractor management or permit-to-work professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about health, safety and risk management, we'd love to hear from you.

    The Opportunity

As a Control of Works Advisor, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring that all contractor activities and project works are carried out safely, compliantly, and in line with best practice. Working closely with the Control of Works Manager and key client stakeholders, you'll help oversee the control of work process, review planned activities, deliver training, and provide assurance that robust safe systems of work are consistently applied.

This is a highly visible role that combines operational oversight, stakeholder engagement, safety leadership, and continuous improvement.

    What You'll Be Doing

Managing and coordinating the Control of Work process across the site.

Reviewing work scopes, risk assessments, and method statements to ensure appropriate controls are in place.

Overseeing contractor activities and ensuring compliance with permit-to-work and safe systems of work procedures.

Delivering contractor inductions and Control of Work training.

Conducting monitoring activities, audits, and assurance checks to drive compliance and process effectiveness.

Producing performance reports and supporting KPI delivery.

Working closely with operational teams, Authorised Persons (APs), contractors and client representatives.

Supporting toolbox talks and competency development initiatives.

Investigating incidents, tracking corrective actions, and promoting a proactive safety culture.

Driving continuous improvement across contractor management and control of work arrangements.

    What We're Looking For

    Essential

NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent HSSE qualification).

Experience operating contractor management, permit-to-work, or control of work systems within Facilities Management, Building Services, Engineering, or Projects environments.

Strong understanding of risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work.

Experience working within operational facilities, technical estates, or project delivery environments.

Excellent organisational and planning skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands.

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Confidence delivering training and engaging with contractors and operational teams.

Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office
