Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 17:00 (subject to change depending on project phase)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Contract Senior Project Engineer specialising in Utilities, Civil, and Building Infrastructure to support major capital expenditure (CapEx) investments at a top-tier manufacturing facility in Melton Mowbray.
This individual will take end-to-end operational ownership of substantial site expansion and facility refurbishment packages from design auditing and procurement through to on-site construction, installation, FAT/SAT, and handover.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverable
Engineering Design & Management:
Review, audit, and validate multidisciplinary design submittals, spatial layouts, and civil/building packages against company and regulatory standards.
Oversee process line layout designs, P&IDs, PFDs, mass/energy balances, and utilities distribution systems.
Audit technical submittals, electrical schematics (SLDs), and panel layouts provided by third-party design agencies and equipment suppliers.
Prepare detailed User Requirement Specifications (URS), Functional Design Specifications (FDS), and technical Scopes of Work (SOW) for procurement packages.On-Site Installation, Safety & Commissioning:
Direct and supervise on-site construction, civils, utilities integration, and machinery installations.
Enforce strict Health & Safety protocols, Quality, and Food Safety (Q&FS / HACCP / GMP) standards on-site.
Manage daily high-risk work permits (Hot Works, Working at Height, Confined Spaces).
Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), ramp-up execution, and handover.Project Governance & Execution:
Define scope work breakdown structures and schedules using MS Project.
Track project KPIs, milestone timelines, and budget spend to mitigate cost overruns and delays.
Manage external contractors, vendors, and multi-disciplinary stakeholders through regular progress reporting.
Candidate Requirements
Experience:
5+ years of hands-on, on-site field engineering experience within manufacturing environments.
3+ years in a Project Engineer / Package Engineer capacity managing multi-disciplinary capital projects.
Proven track record of managing and auditing third-party engineering designs.Industry Focus:
Strong expertise in Food Manufacturing or FMCG sectors.
Deep working knowledge of hygienic design principles, food safety standards (HACCP, GMP), and civil/utilities infrastructure.Technical Skills:
Proficient with CAD software and MS Project.
