How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    A well-established and rapidly growing main contractor based in Stevenage is looking to appoint an experienced Contracts Manager to join their operational team.

    The company delivers a range of refurbishment, fit-out, industrial, commercial and education projects across the South East, with a growing order book and strong pipeline of work.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a Contracts Manager looking to join a progressive contractor and take responsibility for the successful delivery of multiple projects from pre-construction through to completion.

    The Role

    As Contracts Manager, you will oversee the successful delivery of projects, working closely with Site Managers, Quantity Surveyors, clients, consultants and subcontractors.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    * Managing multiple projects from pre-construction through to completion

    * Overall responsibility for programme, quality, health & safety and commercial performance

    * Managing and supporting Project Managers and site teams

    * Reviewing project programmes and ensuring key milestones are achieved

    * Managing client and consultant relationships

    * Overseeing subcontractors and supply chain performance

    * Attending progress meetings and providing regular project updates

    * Monitoring project costs and working closely with the commercial team

    * Managing variations, contractual issues and potential risks

    * Ensuring projects are delivered to the required quality standards

    * Supporting the pre-construction and procurement process

    * Identifying and managing project risks and opportunities

    * Ensuring compliance with company procedures, health & safety requirements and relevant legislation

    * Assisting with the successful handover and completion of projects

    The Position

    The ideal person will have:

    * Previous experience as a Contracts Manager with a main contractor

    * Strong experience within refurbishment, fit-out, commercial, industrial or education projects

    * Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously

    * Strong knowledge of construction processes, programmes and contract management

    * Excellent client and subcontractor management skills

    * Strong commercial awareness

    * Good understanding of health & safety and quality requirements

    * Excellent communication and organisational skills

    * The ability to lead project teams and drive projects through to successful completion

    * A proactive and commercially minded approach

    Salary: Competitive, depending on experience + package
