How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Adecco are pleased to be recruiting for a Legal Advisor to work within the Devon & Cornwall Police Force

    Location: Middlemore Police HQ, Exeter
    Contract Type: Temporary ongoing until at least June 2027
    Hourly Rate: £26.41 per hour, working 37 hours per week Monday to Friday, Hybrid

    Our client, a prominent organisation within the legal sector, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Legal Advisor to join their dynamic team in Exeter. This is an exciting opportunity for a legal professional to provide comprehensive legal services to Chief Constables, officers, and staff, as well as to the Offices of the Police and Crime Commissioners (OPCC).

    Key Responsibilities:

    As a Legal Advisor, the successful candidate will:

    Offer tactical and strategic legal advice across a wide range of legal issues, including civil claims, Employment Tribunals, Inquests, and Judicial Review applications.
    Manage a diverse caseload, investigating and advising on contentious and non-contentious matters, while ensuring proactive legal support for police operations.
    Collaborate with police officers, staff, and partner agencies to obtain civil preventative orders, while working to mitigate strategic legal risks.
    Provide advocacy representation for the Chief Constable in various legal proceedings, ensuring thorough preparation and effective communication.
    Supervise and mentor paralegals and legal administrators, fostering a collaborative team environment.Essential Qualifications and Skills:

    To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

    An LLB (Hons) degree or equivalent qualification, with relevant professional qualifications as a Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives.
    Proven experience in handling contentious legal matters, with a comprehensive understanding of legal principles, legislation, and police law.
    Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence decision-making at all organisational levels.
    Strong research and investigative skills, coupled with high attention to detail and the ability to manage a diverse caseload in a high-pressure environment.
    IT literacy and familiarity with specialist databases and case management systems.Desirable Attributes:

    Critical thinking skills and adaptability to changing circumstances.
