How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Development Engineer – Residential Housebuilding

    £65,000–£75,000 + package | Permanent | Housebuilding

    We’re working with an established housebuilder who are looking to appoint a Development Engineer to support the delivery and feasibility of residential developments.

    This is a role for an engineer who understands that successful housing developments require more than just good technical design. You’ll be involved in understanding whether developments are technically feasible, commercially sensible, capable of achieving planning requirements and, ultimately, buildable.

    The successful candidate must have experience within residential development, housebuilding and associated infrastructure. This is essential to the role.

    The position would suit someone who has developed a strong understanding of the wider residential development process and can bring together engineering, feasibility, planning, cost and construction considerations.

    What the role entails:

    * Providing engineering input across residential developments from initial feasibility through to construction.

    * Reviewing potential sites and identifying engineering constraints, opportunities, risks and abnormal costs.

    * Assessing the technical feasibility of developments, including roads, drainage, levels, earthworks and utilities.

    * Reviewing site layouts, technical reports, surveys and engineering proposals to ensure they work as part of the wider development.

    * Working closely with planning, development, commercial and construction teams to ensure engineering requirements are considered from the outset.

    * Managing and coordinating external engineering and technical consultants, including briefing, reviewing and challenging their work where required.

    * Liaising with planners, local authorities, highways, drainage authorities and utility providers to resolve technical matters.

    * Ensuring proposed designs are commercially sensible, practical and capable of being delivered on site.

    * Identifying engineering issues that could impact development cost, programme or buildability and helping to develop solutions.

    * Supporting land appraisals, feasibility studies and development proposals with engineering advice.

    * Supporting the transition from planning and design into construction and providing technical input where engineering issues arise on site.

    The background we're looking for:

    * Must have experience within residential development, housebuilding and associated infrastructure.

    * Engineering or technical background with a strong understanding of residential developments.

    * Good understanding of roads, drainage, levels, earthworks and utilities.

    * Experience assessing the feasibility of residential developments from an engineering perspective.

    * Understanding of how engineering decisions affect development cost, viability and programme.

    * Experience managing, reviewing or challenging external consultants.

    * Strong understanding of construction and what makes a design practically buildable.

    * Comfortable working with planners, councils, consultants and internal development teams.

    * Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

    Package:

    * Salary: £65,000–£75,000

    * Car allowance or company car

    * Discretionary bonus

    * Pension

    * Health insurance

    * Company events

    * Employee discounts

    * Additional company perks and benefits

    This isn't a traditional civil engineering role. The client is looking for someone who understands the development as a whole and can assess engineering requirements alongside cost, planning, programme and buildability.

    If you're currently working in a Development Engineer, Technical Engineer, Civil Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer or similar position within residential development or housebuilding, and you're looking for a role with greater involvement across the wider development process, I'd be keen to speak with you.
