How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Astute's Nuclear team is partnering with a growing engineering SME to recruit a Project Engineer on a permanent basis, based at their offices in Bridgwater, with travel to client and supplier sites as required.
This is a hands-on technical delivery role suited to an engineer or technical delivery professional who enjoys coordinating projects and working across multiple engineering disciplines. You will connect engineering, procurement, suppliers, production, installation and commissioning, ensuring the right information is available, technical requirements are understood and agreed delivery milestones are achieved.
If you are a Project Engineer, Technical Engineer or experienced engineering professional looking to take greater ownership of project delivery and progress your career towards Project Management, submit your CV today.

Responsibilities and duties of the Project Engineer role

Take ownership of the technical coordination and day-to-day delivery of assigned engineering work packages.
Develop and maintain technical delivery plans, deliverable schedules, action and decision logs, interface information, risk and issue records and change documentation.
Review project contracts, technical scopes, deliverables, interfaces, acceptance requirements, assumptions and constraints to ensure delivery requirements are clearly understood.
Coordinate interfaces between Engineering, Procurement, Production, suppliers, installation, commissioning and clients, ensuring responsibilities and deadlines are clearly defined.
Control the issue, receipt and status of technical information, ensuring internal teams and subcontractors are working from the correct approved documentation.
Track readiness for technical reviews, inspections, hold points and go/no-go gates, ensuring required information, actions and approvals are in place before progression.
Work closely with Lead, Senior and Design Engineers to resolve technical queries and obtain specialist input where required.
Monitor supplier and subcontractor deliverables and progress, identifying omissions, conflicts, emerging requirements and potential delays.
Identify and record technical deviations, concessions and non-conformances, coordinating the appropriate engineering assessment and ensuring their impact on programme, interfaces and acceptance is understood.
Communicate technical delivery status, dependencies, gate readiness and outstanding issues to clients, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Maintain accurate and auditable project documentation, including inspection, test and quality assurance records.
Identify potential scope changes or cost implications arising from technical decisions and escalate these to the Project Manager.

    Professional and Personal skills

The Project Engineer role would suit someone who has:

A degree, HNC/HND, apprenticeship or equivalent experience in electrical, control, mechanical or another relevant engineering discipline.
Previous experience coordinating engineering projects, technical work packages, subcontractors or suppliers within a multi-discipline environment.
The ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation and understand how they relate to project delivery.
Experience coordinating technical information, interfaces, supplier activity, inspections, reviews, project documentation or delivery milestones.
Good technical curiosity and the confidence to engage with engineers, suppliers, subcontractors and clients, while recognising when specialist engineering input is required.
An organised and detail-conscious approach, with the ability to maintain accurate records and follow actions through to completion.
Experience working within EC&I, nuclear, defence or another regulated engineering environment would be beneficial but is not essential.
A proactive approach to identifying issues, resolving ambiguity and escalating concerns before they affect delivery.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across technical and non-technical teams.

Salary and benefits of the Project Engineer role

    £42,000 - £50,000
    37.5 hours per week
25 days annual leave plus public holidays
    8% employer pension contribution
    Health cash plan
    Company bonus arrangements
Based at Bridgwater Gateway, North Petherton
Travel to client and supplier sites as required
Potential progression into Project Manager roles or development into a specialist technical competency
