How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Astute's Nuclear team is partnering with a growing engineering SME to recruit a Project Manager on a permanent basis, based at their offices in Bridgwater Gateway, North Petherton, with travel to client and supplier sites as required.
This is a hands-on project delivery role suited to an experienced Project Manager who is confident taking ownership of engineering projects from initialisation through to closeout. You will be responsible for managing scope, programme, cost, quality, risk, change and client expectations, while working closely with engineering, workshop, supply chain and commercial teams.
If you are an experienced Project Manager with an engineering or technical project background and are looking for greater ownership within a growing SME environment, submit your CV today.

Responsibilities and duties of the Project Manager role

Take ownership of the successful end-to-end delivery of assigned engineering projects, including scope, programme, budget, risk, quality and closeout.
Develop and maintain effective project controls, including project plans, action and decision logs, risk and issue registers, change control, cost forecasts and progress reporting.
Read and understand project contracts, technical scopes, deliverables, interfaces, acceptance requirements and key assumptions.
Lead project meetings and act as the principal day-to-day client contact, ensuring communication is accurate, timely and appropriately authorised.
Coordinate engineering, workshop, supply chain and client activities, monitoring progress against objective evidence and maintaining visibility of project dependencies and decisions.
Identify, assess and manage project risks, changes, delays and non-conformances, escalating issues early with clear facts and recommended actions.
Manage project commercial performance, including costs, forecasting, invoicing, variations and cash collection, ensuring the company's contractual and commercial position is protected.
Support and develop Project Coordinators in project controls and delivery practices, while contributing to bids, project handovers and lessons learned.

    Professional and Personal skills

The Project Manager role would suit someone who has:

Demonstrable experience delivering and controlling engineering or technical projects, with responsibility for programme, client communication and financial information.
HNC/HND, degree, apprenticeship or equivalent technical experience in an engineering or technically relevant discipline.
Good technical understanding and the ability to engage confidently with drawings, specifications, manufacturing or assembly processes and technical specialists.
Experience managing project budgets, forecasts, variations and commercial performance, with an understanding of contractual obligations.
Strong project controls experience, with the ability to identify gaps, manage competing priorities and maintain accurate project information.
Clear, concise and proactive communication skills, with confidence engaging with clients, suppliers and internal technical teams.
A practical, resilient and collaborative approach suited to a growing SME environment.
A Project Management qualification is desirable but not essential.
Experience within regulated or highly technical industries would be beneficial.

Salary and benefits of the Project Manager role

    £45,000 - £50,000
    37.5 hours per week
25 days annual leave plus public holidays
    8% employer pension contribution
    Health cash plan
    Company bonus arrangements
Based at Bridgwater Gateway, North Petherton
Travel to client and supplier sites as required
Opportunity to progress towards Senior Project Manager and broader project leadership responsibilities
