How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

A place to make a difference

Location: Hybrid, Burnley. The role will initially be office-based during the training period. After training, a minimum of one day per week in the office will be required, in line with our Surveyor roles. Candidates must also be willing to travel across the region and occasionally to other regions for training and meetings.

Salary: £32,936 per annum (including car allowance)
2 year Fixed Term Contract, 35 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

With over 22,500 homes across the country, we’re responsible for supporting thousands of customers and their families.

We’re proud to build positive, long-lasting relationships that go beyond housing. The work we do supports our customers and creates vibrant communities where people of all backgrounds can thrive.

If you pride yourself on delivering the best customer care and want to use your skills to make a positive impact on families and communities, there’s a place for you at Accent.

    About the role

Join our team as a Trainee Surveyor and help deliver high-quality maintenance services to our customers. You’ll carry out property inspections, assess repairs, and work with contractors to ensure standards are met - especially in light of new responsibilities under Awaab’s Law, which requires prompt action on damp, mould, and emergency repairs to protect tenant health.

This is a hands-on learning role where you’ll shadow experienced surveyors, build your technical and customer service skills, and work towards a professional qualification. We’re looking for someone with the right attitude - resilient, proactive, and committed to improving lives. Strong communication, IT skills, teamwork, and a willingness to learn are essential.

Join us and help shape safer, healthier homes while living our values and representing Accent with pride.

    Trainee Salary

The spot salary for this post is £31,686 per annum for applicants who fully meet the requirements of the post. If you’re still developing some of the skills or experience, you can start at a salary 5% or 10% below the spot rate, with clear support and progression opportunities to reach the full amount.

You'll also receive a car allowance starting at £1,250 per annum.

    About you

A keen interest in building maintenance and working alongside contractors to deliver reactive maintenance services
Willingness to work towards and achieve Level 3 BTech in the Built Environment
Minimum of 5 x GCSE, level 4 (grade C ) or above including English and Maths
Evidence of regular study in support of continued professional development
Strong interpersonal and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines
IT literacy, including proficiency in using company operational software systems
    Interviews

We want your candidate experience to reflect who we are - a place to grow, a place to thrive, a place to be you.

Stage 1: A Place to Connect
A Teams interview with the hiring manager. You’ll learn more about the role and team, and we’ll get to know you – your experience, goals, and what you bring.
Planned date: 19th or 21st October via Teams.

Stage 2: A Place to Show Your Strengths
A role related Excel assessment and behavioural and scenario-based interview focused on how you apply your knowledge to real-life situations. You'll be asked to complete a Customer Service Questionnaire in advance.
