CETO Talent are currently recruiting for an experienced Rolling Stock Project Engineer to join a Fleet Heavy Overhaul team within a major London transport organisation.

This is an opportunity for a multi-disciplinary Project Engineer to lead and support a range of rolling stock engineering activities associated with the delivery of safe, compliant, efficient and assured overhaul technical support.

The role will suit an experienced rail vehicle engineer with a strong technical background, ideally with experience of London Underground rolling stock or a similarly complex, safety-critical operational environment.

The Role

Working within the Vehicles Engineering function, you will be responsible for leading and supporting engineering activities relating to rolling stock fleet heavy overhaul.

Depending on experience and deployment within the team, you will report to an appropriate engineering or business leader and take responsibility for delivering agreed engineering outputs within the required timescales.

The role is based from a central London office, with regular site working as required. The position may also involve travel elsewhere in the UK and overseas in support of project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and support multi-disciplinary rolling stock engineering activities

- Provide technical engineering support to fleet heavy overhaul projects

- Develop, review and analyse technical documentation

- Support the delivery of safe, compliant and assured engineering outputs

- Analyse complex technical data and provide clear conclusions and recommendations

- Apply relevant railway standards and engineering requirements to project activities

- Support testing, manufacturing and operation of rolling stock system designs

- Identify and manage engineering risks throughout the project lifecycle

- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to resolve technical issues and deliver project objectives

- Coordinate engineering resources and lead individuals within the team where required

- Build effective working relationships across engineering, operational and project teams

- Provide technical input to senior management and project stakeholders

- Mentor and support junior engineers

- Use initiative and sound judgement when responding to emerging engineering issues

- Support project delivery in accordance with relevant project lifecycle processes

About You

We are looking for an experienced Project Engineer / Rolling Stock Engineer with a strong understanding of rail vehicle systems and engineering principles.

Experience working within London Underground rolling stock would be highly desirable. Candidates with experience of other operationally complex and safety-critical rolling stock environments may also be considered.

You will need to be comfortable working independently while also contributing effectively within a multi-disciplinary engineering team.

Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills are essential, along with the ability to review complex information, identify appropriate solutions and make recommendations to senior stakeholders.

Key Requirements

- Proven experience in rail vehicle systems or rolling stock engineering

- Experience working within a safety-critical rail or similarly complex operational environment

- Experience producing, reviewing and analysing technical engineering documentation

- Experience interpreting and applying relevant Railway Standards

- Experience relating to the testing, manufacture and/or operation of rolling stock systems

- Strong understanding of general engineering principles

- Knowledge of rail safety legislation and operating rules/regulations

- Understanding of rolling stock maintenance and overhaul requirements

- Knowledge of systems engineering and assets that interface with rolling stock

- Experience of project lifecycle principles and processes

- Understanding of engineering risk management

- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

- Ability to analyse complex data and produce reports and recommendations

- Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers

- Ability to lead individuals and coordinate engineering resources where required

- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Desirable

- Previous London Underground rolling stock experience

- Experience working within a fleet heavy overhaul environment

- Knowledge of TfL Pathway or similar project lifecycle methodology

- Experience with MS Project

- Experience with Power BI

- Awareness of legal, procurement and contractual requirements within project delivery

Qualifications

- Engineering degree or equivalent engineering qualifications and experience

- Chartered Engineer or equivalent
