Building Safety Consultant - London Based

Salary: £56,000 - £64,000 per annum, depending on experience
Additional: £4,000 London weighting for candidates whose principal residence is within a London borough
Location: London, with UK-wide travel as required

The Role

An established professional consultancy is seeking a Building Safety Consultant to join its specialist team.

The successful candidate will undertake a critical, client-facing role, providing professional advice and support to organisations responsible for the safety and compliance of high-rise residential buildings across the UK.

The role will involve working closely with clients to assess existing arrangements, identify areas for improvement and support the development and ongoing maintenance of robust building safety management arrangements in line with the Building Safety Act 2022 and associated regulatory requirements.

The position will involve regular UK-wide travel to client sites.

Key Responsibilities

Undertake detailed building analysis and assessments, producing clear and comprehensive reports containing findings and recommendations.
Review and assess client documentation relating to health and safety, fire safety and wider Safety Management Systems.
Conduct building safety gap analyses and identify areas requiring improvement or further control.
Develop and review health and safety and fire safety management systems.
Prepare draft policies, procedures, processes and risk mitigation strategies.
Support clients with the implementation and continuous improvement of recommended measures.
Assist clients with the preparation, review and ongoing maintenance of Safety Case Reports.
Engage directly with clients, providing constructive feedback, professional guidance and practical building safety advice.
Monitor changes to relevant legislation, regulations, guidance and standards.
Advise clients on their legal and regulatory compliance obligations.
Support clients in maintaining compliance with government guidance and applicable building safety requirements.
Contribute to the continuous development of internal consultancy processes, technical knowledge and professional standards.

About You

You will have relevant professional experience within health and safety, fire safety, building safety or a closely related discipline, with demonstrable experience of applying regulatory requirements within residential or high-risk built environments.

You will ideally have:

Experience developing, implementing or reviewing health and safety management systems, including policies and procedures.
A comprehensive understanding of regulatory safety requirements applicable to residential buildings.
A Level 5 or Level 6 safety-related qualification, such as a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
A Level 4 or higher qualification in Fire Risk Management or an equivalent relevant qualification.
Relevant professional membership of an appropriate health and safety, fire safety or building safety organisation.
A strong understanding of health and safety and fire safety legislation, building regulations and relevant British Standards.
Demonstrable experience applying regulatory requirements and professional standards in a practical setting.
An interest in keeping up to date with developments in building safety legislation, regulation and guidance.
